Dennos bike is a great example... but I'm sure you're kinda looking at this thread like "wow everybody just wants me to buy their buddys bike" which is true, but it is a pretty sweet bike.
To set it up yourself your looking at
$4500 for the bike
$1000 for bodywork (or 3 sets of the shitty stuff after you crash)
$1500 for suspension
$1200 or more in race parts (clipons, rear sets, case covers, brake lines, fairing stay, frame sliders, etc)
$1500 for a pipe, PC, and dyno time
$9700 give or take, not including any spares or parts you might break to set up a bike thats already 3 years old. It just doesn't really add up thats all... I've done it. I did the same thing CEO did... took my $8200 bike and over time put another $5-7k into it racing it (broken parts, race parts, etc) and then sold it this spring for $3k. Don't bother.
The only reason I list it out like that is because you said you'll be racing it, which means you'll spend that money eventually. Don't say you won't, you will. If you were going to just be doing trackdays with it... rock whatever bike you want, you won't need all the go fast crash hard bits and pieces.

I thought about the same thing of starting from scratch and wanting to learn how to do it on my own. I ended up learning a lot and also spending at least 3x more over the cost of my stock bike than if I picked up a (race) prepped bike. You can still learn even from a prepped bike. If I knew now back then I would have picked up the prepped bike and torn it down myself and put it back together w/out spending an extra cent.
I'm not suggesting anyone’s bike but it is just usually the cheapest way into the sport if you want something all set up.
