Re: Track bikes for large humans?

Got the GSX-R750 out for the first time at a Track Day yesterday at Palmer. Was still worried I’d be able to ride it, but all the stretching and strengthening really helped and I rode all but one session. Put it in B mode and focused on getting and staying on line.

“Use it or lose it” certainly applies. It’s a relief as I’d already had the suspension upgraded.

I looked for you, did not see you until I was rolling out at the end of the day. Which group were you riding in? And did you ride the last session?

Continued upgrading the GSX-R with WoodCraft rearsets and rear stainless brake line. And got a new trailer. So of course Thursday, three days before TTD, I sprain my ribs playing hockey....

You can want to sell your spot Sunday?

I’ll be there anyways picking up a trailer, might ride too if there is a spot open.

Update: installing WoodCraft rearsets and SS braided front brake lines. And bought a new trailer. And lost 15 lbs. Hope to be out a lot more this season.

Is it Penguin or Fishtail going to Canaan? That's about 45 minutes from from our place near Sunapee, so appealing.

Both Fishtail and Penguin run days @ Canaan.
GSXR750 is a large bike for that track though, IMO.

I’ll need tires this season. Some track days and some street riding.

Dunlop Q3 Plus Sportmax the consensus choice?

Re: Track bikes for large humans?

I put the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa (had to google it) on my SV last season for Palmer. Was pretty pleased with them. MTAG can provide. Price is pretty reasonable relative to real race rubber.
I have not put a lot of street miles on them yet though. Cannot provide any feedback there or re: treadwear. They are not sketchy when cold or anything. Have not ridden them in the rain.

I've also used the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II on the SV in the past too. Used those entirely on the street, although not much in the rain. I think they are fine. I rotated these to the super-moto when I bought the Diablo Rosso Corsas and did a few sessions at Palmer on those as well.

Were I spending I'd pick the Diablo Rosso Corsas.
They are probably comparable to the Q3's.

Pirelli has a "track day" tire coming out too that might be an even better choice for my own application. For track & street I'm guessing the Diablo Rosso Corsas are still more in your wheelhouse though.

I used the Rosso Corsa as a track/street tire a few years ago. They were great tires and I preferred them over the Dunlops. I felt the performance from the Rosso Corsa on the track was better . But the Dunlops are a little easier on your wallet.

The latest versions are now Rosso III and Corsa II. I ride just enough in the rain to lean towrards the Rosso, but posted on TTD FB and I’ll see what others opine.

Re: Track bikes for large humans?

I am large human. 6 3 /230 lbs and long leg and torso. I ride a punny 2001 sv650 naked. with the handlebar and seat i sit pretty straight with crunched up knees. I also have some disc buldge and scatica ...the fun of being desk jockey.
So i got a rearset plate to move the pegs 1 up and 1 back. then put some drag bars. Still i am struggling to get a good body position as well with long arms and torso i have like sit on the rear seat to get the get the upper body to be flat or i hunch ride.

any thoughts will clip on help?. any large human input.

i got this sv650 which did not run for 8 yrs... bad call. Anyway so far i rebuilt the carb, put new cables and after alot of cable issues, put emulators and racetech in front and zx636 shock and some accesories. so this is not a barn find more like damn let me not sink and get something of this effort. Put brand new Q3 plus and Q4 front.

Now it runs good and close... now next make it fit good. did i mention it was cheap well now after all this- bad call. !

For long legs you actually went in the wrong direction, down and forward will give you more room. Unfortunately it will also put your pegs closer to the asphalt at higher lean angles, but I'm not sure to what degree that matters on SV's specifically.

You can also ditch the clip ons and replace with a set of bar risers and moto bars, that will definitely give you some more room. If you're built anything like my 6'3/230 you're not really going hurt your aero any more than you do by simply existing.

I'm not exactly long of leg with a 34" inseam but they aren't short either and I find that up and back with the pegs is actually more comfortable than lower and forward. I understand that the physics/geometry doesn't make much sense but it is what it is.

Agree here , up and back works better. I am going to flip them to Back and Lower next trackday. It takes 10 minutes to flip them back if i dragging pegs. which i am yet too even as a fat guy on a shot sv shock. the zx shock is better but i am still not touching.
i am also adding some clips on to get a better position.

Strange thing i feel alot more comfortable on my fjr1300 on corners moving around and riding. if it even makes any sense. seems the fjr is more comfortable and the geometry sets me to ride better.

The FJR is probably a lot more open than an SV. I never got truly comfortable on my SV, even with plates to lower the rear sets and a taller seat. The peg to ass position was just too tight. Motards are comfy, but that's a whole different animal and riding position.

On another note. I might be at the end of the road with my 2001 sv. If so any idea on a better track / street ride to join the fjr . In the fall or spring or winter I want to take it south or something to ride so it will be nice to be streetable. I do not think hi need a 1k .

Did 2 changes . Clipon so I can stretch and then set the pegs 1 inch back and down.
June 10 I will know how it feels at thompson..might tweak before June 29 track day at Canaan.

I have not been following the bouncing ball here..

I thought I would chime in. I'm bigger than average and ran my Duke 790 the last two days at Palmer. Yeah. It's dandy for big lads.
I'm beyond in love with this bike.
