    Re: First Track Day

My suggestion is simply to not do a trackday. It's a slippery slope towards a time consuming, lifelong memory creating, adrenaline enhancing addiction that I cannot lead anyone else into in good conscience.

From what I can tell, I'm about 15-30% of the way down the slope. Which is to say I still have some savings and most of my annual vacation time goes to something else... this year.

    Re: First Track Day

See? Only bad things can come of it.

I actually won my first trackday in a raffle, and I'm still convinced it was a plot by my friends to destroy my chances of ever having a spare dollar or vacation day. That was the May 207 TTD, and I paid cash at that date for the following TTD, and did that for every remaining day in 07. Up until the first TTD that conflicted with a race weekend the second year Tony did NJMP, I didn't skip a single one, and even that was only because the addiction had led to me mainlining tracktime in the form of going racing also.

    WTF indeed.

FWIW, day 1 was over a year ago for me. At this point the toy bike idea was already rattling around upstairs. And I was sure I'd be back.

As said, OP, you've been warned.

Not answering your question, but my word of advice is: don't wait till September. Since this is new england, we almost always get shitty ass hit or miss weather that late in the season. NHMS is notorious for bullshit weather in early or late seasons - cold, windy, rainy = crashes. Get it out of the way in the summer.

Come to the Bomo day on the 12th so when you get hooked you'll have a couple more opportunities before the snowmobiles are running around.

    This.

I did my first track day with TTD in May of last year, planning it to be my one and only time for the season. Well I ended up doing 5 last year, bought a full suit/gear. I'll be on my 4th day this year with this upcoming Bomo day in August. I think a drug habit would have been cheaper.

A guy on another forum I know has a signature that's something like, "Racing as an addiction makes heroin seem like a lame desire for something salty".

Hunter S Thompson said that. http://www.latexnet.org/~csmith/sausage.html is another of his works, good read.

Thompson's comment is different. Number 9 is referring to DucDave's sig, which says...

Don't think about the weather. Make sure you, your gear, and the bike are prepped. You will learn a ton and have fun no matter the weather! Oh, and everybody is willing to help you out, just ask when you don't know what to do, everybody was there once! See you there!

And ask even if you think you know what to do, because either you don't, or you can get advice that may help you do it better. Could be the difference from picking up a bad habit and having to spend time unlearning it, to picking up the right habit and moving forward. Good luck and have fun!

Yes. Make friends with someone in your group and hang out with them. In my experience it either isn't hard to make friends at a track day, or track days are full of people who are way too polite to tell me to eff off. One of the two.

Excellent! The F4i is a great track bike (assuming that's what you are using).

If you get hooked on Friday the 4th... we have our last two trackdays on the following Mon and Tues to help you with the winter withdrawal.
