    Track days that rent bikes?

I have a friend going through a midlife crisis of sorts who wants to experience a track day/track school. He doesn't have a bike, doesn't ride, but has ridden before, with dirt riding experience from his younger years (i.e. short ramp up).

I know Penguin rents...but that's a race school. I've been to Schwantz, but that's in Atlanta (not that I'd mind taking him down there). Any suggestions locally other than Penguin?

I'm right in Peabody, I've let others use my gsxr 600 before. If your confident that your buddy isn't a tool I'll lend it out to him too. The bikes been crashed before, I find used parts cheap and can put them on. If he crashes, he crashes. It would likely just be a slider and a lever at that, and I wouldn't give a shit. My buddy crashed it, and all it cost him was $60 for those two parts, I didn't mind the minor scuffs on the plastics and exhaust. Mention it to him, see if he wants to think about it. That way he can do a Tony's, and not have to pay for renting a bike.

Why would he enjoy a track day with no bike experience?

Take him to the MSF and then rent him a harley or BMW for a day in revere...

I completely missed the fact that he had no experience really. An MSF is definitely a better start. The first bike I road was in an MSF class and it was fun and exciting, because I was learning something new. If I had just started with a track day, I would see myself being very frustrated while frustrating everyone on the track around me (as well as putting them in danger).

A second alternative, or better yet a next step would be for him to just get his permit. My buddy dave got his permit and ninja 250 last summer. He learned by following behind me on some roads at his pace. I've yet to convince him to spend the money on an MSF class, but I'd say he is a decent and safe rider. You can get a 250 for under $1500. It would be a better investment then a track day because chances are he can sell it for the same price he got it for.

AMEN... When I first started racing stock cars, One mentor I had told me I ought not to race and just sign my paycheck over to him every week, then work for him every night for free and get no sleep. I laughed, he was right ! You do it for the love of racing not to make any money. If my wife actually knew what I spent in the 3 years I ran a car I would be single lol

That's so true. How come if we spent what we spend on racing on drugs and hookers our friends and families would have an intervention and we'd be an addict?

I will say that we at TTD would be quite concerned about having someone who doesn't ride attending one of our days. We are newbie-friendly, but that means "rides a motorcycle", even if it has only been for a short time.

If he wants a feel for being on the track and if he's not too big, either me or Tony can give him a ride around for a couple of laps.

That's a very generous offer....but, alas, he doesn't have much experience. I had every intent on getting him into an MSF class (and some local tooling around with a permit) before there was any talk of the track.

My friend does quite well financially...he could buy himself a 1098R and not give it a second thought. Now that you mention it, that's a lot of coke and hookers.

I figured I'd let him rent your 1098s for the day and we'd hit Revere for some burnouts and wheelies.

Don't worry Ken... He is gonna start on a BUSA not a Gixxer!

Re: Track days that rent bikes?

I would not be interested in having someone that doesn't ride on the track with my students. He needs to have some riding experience before a track day is good for him or us. Just riding dirt years ago is not good enough. We are always interested in safety at my school and most of the others as well. My school is more interested in teaching riders to be better and faster then just doing lots of laps. I think our students get more laps for the money than any other school at Loudon. Tell your friend to get a bike and ride the road for a while before doing a track day.
