This really works. And is hilarious too. "CONE! TREE! CRACK! TAR SNAKE!"

Balls of the feet was one of the first things TTD taught me. This one makes me cringe now. Look at those bat toes!

This year someone taught me about locking my heal into the bike by rotating my whole foot out rather than just the knee. I think this is awesome and makes me feel a lot more connected to the bike.

I wouldn't call "joy riding" at a trackday a waste of time. I pretty much just joyride at every trackday I go to. I'm all for improving your riding, but I think there is value in just riding the track for the fun of it.

I was at TTD's and heard about this. Hope you're feeling better and have a speedy recovery man.

Ouch. I'm surprised you got your gloves off yourself w/ that thumb without reporting or showing any pain. Then again, adrenaline is a wonderful thing.

But I'm not surprised you don't remember me, you rung your bell pretty good. Sumbitch wouldn't listen to me... ya kept tryin to get up even though I kept tellin ya to sit on your ass!

Yeah, I don't remember what happened for the entire lap before or until I was getting in the ambulance. I would love to know what happened!

    Damn.

Yeah I can't say for sure how you went down as you were already on the ground when I came through T3. Can't say for certain if you were motionless or not, but you weren't moving much, if at all when I first saw you. By the time I parked my bike off to the side you had started trying to get up but were clearly having trouble w/ your balance so I got you to stay seated. Helped you get your gloves off, TRIED to get you to keep your helmet on, but you weren't having any of that.

I forget which staff member it was, but one of us saw it happen and noted a puff of smoke off the front which suggests you just locked up the front. That's what I told the EMT's, that you likely locked up the front tire, went down on your right side & mashed your mellon.

Yeah, me and Pete were the first bikes to come across you. I'll have to check the video to see if we got any of the crash, but the marks on the pavement say you lost the front.

I wish I had known it was you, when you were packin up and leaving in front of the TTD garage you were all smiles. Good for you man, right attitude to have.

Me and Neil were in front of Iglu and Pete. We saw the crash happen from T3, but at that distance there's not a lot more to say. Locked front still straight up and down and went down hard to the right. Out cold immediately and barrel rolled a bit.

WHY you did that is something we won't ever really know.

    Re: Track riding improvement plans

I think we're going to see more of this happening at Turn 4. You can get quite a bit of speed up between 3 and 4 and then realize you are going to fast to make the slowest corner on the track. This is a reason we added the braking cones on the left - to help people realize where they should be off the gas.

You made the classic mistake of applying too much front brake before "setting" the front tire.

It's critical to "set" the front tire by rolling off the gas and applying partial brake - this will make the front tire squat to a nice big patch - and then you can brake hard.

Pete. Have you taken penguin advanced course yet? The other trackdays have some instruction and tips but nothing like that course. Also if you can do a 1 on 1 with and instructor or even find a good control riding to follow around for a session or two it would be a big help. Penguin does that for free with the class, other places charge for 1 on 1. It could still be worth it though. Last year I thought I knew 'the line' until I ride with a few people who really knew what they were doing. 3 or 4 feet off line will make a huge difference with comfort at pace and lap times. The problem with just going out and getting reference points is that you may be using the wrong ones.

Check with Seacoast for a rental ... they can probably bring the suit to the track this weekend since it's a race weekend. The Pirelli garage is right next to the Seacoast one, so they can give it to me and I'll hold it for you. You have to get it back to them though.

I have a Size 44 Teknic suit, in decent condition if you want to borrow it for Monday.

I have not done Penguin advanced, maybe that will be on the list for next year. Can you get your race license from that course? I have 1-on-1 with Gino on Monday via TTD too.

What size are you? I have a two-piece I can bring for you if you want. Its a sz 44 jacket 32-34 waist I think? A little too short in the legs and tight in the waist for me but good otherwise at 6'2" 200. It almost fit me at 6'2" 185. You can borrow it until you get yours if you want.

PS I'm right next to the Warwick Cycle Gear

Josh, I too have a suit I can lend you. I'm a giant fatass and my stuff is way bigger than anything listed here. It's all 48 or 50. PM me or message by FB if required.

Yes, you can get race licensed from Penguin. TTD can do it also, but I haven't fully implemented the program yet. Gino will definitely help you reach your goals! See you Monday.

I was under the impression that the Penguin Basic course was their licensing program, not the advanced.

Sorry, I believe that is correct - when you are ready to get licensed you would take the Basic course. I missed the "advanced" part of the question.
