A truly fast lap around NJMP...

Alex (a13x) recently bought a Qstarz timer from Mad Monkey and was working with AMA racer James Rispoli at NJMP. The timer was strapped to James' bike for the qualifying session at NJMP Thunderbolt and he pulled a 124.7.

Alex, James and I wanted to share the data with other riders. Certainly can be used as a learning tool, but I'm pretty sure his talent exceeds most of ours

You can download a free version of QRacing to check out his session here: http://madmonkeyspeed.com/RispoliNJMP.html

It's really incredible to see his data...you're flying around that track if you're pulling a 1:35 and he dipped below 1:25. Check out his transitions from the gas to the brake (and vice versa), as well as how steep the slope of his braking is. Into T1 he's pulling about 1 g. Oh, and his corner speed

Huge thanks to Alex for hooking it up!

James is a machine, known him since the day he was born.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Thanks Lou. I just dug out my lap info from last fall because I'll be down there this weekend. I can't wait to check out their #'s.

[EDIT] I don't have access at work unfortunately - but I assume i can load his data and compare to mine? Siiiick

That's cool. Have you been to watch him race recently? That'd be a good time.

Yeah Kian, you can compare your laps to his. I can't wait to do the same myself.

So I'm looking at the data now...this is awesome. Thanks (all) for making it available. Here's slow vs fast. Lots of interesting things to pick up on.

    Lou, thanks for sharing.

Tons of good stuff to look at. Comparing lines with Rispoli's can show how he's creating opportunities for speed. The chicane and the "never ending right hander" are real eye openers for me.

It looks like the Qstarz software calculates the "Gs" as a combination of changes in speed and direction (which is not good for calculating braking and acceleration). I'm finding myself number crunching the raw data more often, and using the software less.

Here are some questions I'm trying to answer with the logger:
How hard is the braking at the beginning of the brake zone?
How long is the hard braking?
How hard is the braking at turn-in?
How long trail braking, and how hard?
How soon after the apex on the gas and how hard?

Are you able to get these answers from Qstarz (am I just doing this the hard way)?
