give example on some o fthe people that needs "advanced training" on street. what exactly did they do wrong and what exactly is advanced technique you apply on the street? if someone apply different technique than you, are they not able to keep up? is there really only 1 right way? when you go around the curve at speed limit, do you apply the advanced hanging off technique?

only thing i can tell you is i read a book and apply the technics on street. ok? that's how i learn. im not against trackday. if i could i would blah blah blah... feel like repeating myself all the time.

When coming across something unexpected in the street, things like quicker turn in, better braking, being able to feel what your tires are doing, quicker transitioning from one side to the other and so on would be valuable tools to have. These are things that you can learn and practice on the track, but can save your ass if you need to whip them out on the street.

something i remembered from here awhile ago. the best way is to avoid putting yourself in a situation that would lead to unexpected situation. like dont just gun it on blind corner. i think i said it wrong. somebody correct me.

edit: remember, im ALSO talking about riding on the street by the rules and fun in same sentence.

Unexpected situations only become problems if you are not skilled enough, or prepared, to handle them properly. That's where you will get the benefit of exploring your skills with the safety margin that a closed course offers.

Re: Using Your Own Bike at a TD

eboos is handling this nicely. Now will Kham see the light?

Kham I see what your saying... You can ride the street and still learn. You can stay within YOUR defined limits on the street and have fun.

What others are saying is that you can learn somethings faster and safer on the track. You can explore closer to the limit a little more safely and dare I say in a more appropriate environment (the track).

You will then have those skills in reserve to use when you least expect it, like going around that blind corner at a sedate pace but having a car parked in the middle of the corner causing you to have to explore the limits of traction as you brake or the ability to turn quickly without thinking as much.

You can learn these things from books (limited without practice), in a parking lot (practice but with no instruction), on the street (practice withut instruction and not all that safe), at the track (good practice with some instruction) or in a class/course (good practice with instruction).
