i was looking to get some video on the track and was wondering a go pro or contour are the only ways to go. specifically i was wondering if a small sony handy cam mounted to the bike would work. its a Hd camera . im not looking for travis pastrana type of footage just some basic video to critique myself ..

you just missed the boat. amazon had the contour roam on sale for $89.
they both have their advantages. i know a bunch of people including myself got the contour.
seems like the contour may be a better system than the go pro

It would probably work. It might not be ideal, but it would work. You'd obviously have to come up with some sort of mounting system

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

    Re: video camera

I tried using a hard drive Sony Handycam on a custom tank mount and it would only record at idle. Anything higher than say 4kRPM or anything with the bike moving would tweak the camera out and it stopped recording. I'm not sure if it was some kind of protection for the hard drive or if it just didn't like the vibration. I ended up getting a Contour I put on my helmet and couldn't be happier.

I'd say if you can borrow or get a mount cheap, it's at least worth a try before you go and buy a new camera. If you can get it to work it would probably give a better quality picture because of the better lens and sensor.

    Re: video camera

One thing about these action cameras that they bring to the table is the lens. They all have pretty wide angle lenses. I think this is a huge advantage for motorsport use, personally.

Then again, if the handycam is already paid for..
