    Re: Winter project....what to do!?

I'm hoping I can get by for the upcoming 2014 Track season with......
    1. Engine and frame slider protection.
    2. Race body
    3. Track tires (from Tony!?)
    4. Suspension adjustment at track.

    And then...if all goes well....season 2015
    5. Suspension improvement
    6. Triples for better (safer) cornering
    7. Clip ons
    8. ?

*congrats to Ken C on your Street Triple purchase.
*thanks to all for the lightning quick helpful info.
*Josh, I can see you on a SV650 for 2014 (leave that gorgeous Suzuki at home)

As a track day bike you'll be find with stock, but once you start getting faster you'll want (dare I say need) aftermarket triples. The geometry on that bike from the factory is too far off. The cost of the necessary suspension work in order to be competitive road racing is the reason why I sold mine all together for a different bike instead of turning it into a race bike. Granted, that was 3 years ago and I think there were only a handful of available aftermarket triples for the bike. Hopefully prices have come down and availability up.

I still miss that bike, have fun on it!

The suspension is quite good once you get the geometry right.

I agree that the bike will be fine in stock form until you get into the advanced group.

    My winter projects;
Find a flyscreen for the Street Triple, get the forks revalved and install a new shock. Then wait. Thankfully, I'm heading down to Barber at the end of November, so I have some more track time before the snow flies.

Thanks Bill, I am trying to decide what to do, Keep playing with the 1K or get a track ex500 or SV. Funds are beyond tight right now.

If you wanna take a ride on my sv to see what one feels like, it's just down the neck a smidge.

Just curious Ken C....are you going to stay with the Street Triple 'upright' bar or change to clipons ? In regards to your For Sale items, I'm going to go with the GB Racing package. Thanks, Bill

    Re: Winter project....what to do!?

I know you don't know me but I have ridden both the EX500 and I own an SV650S and the SV is way more fun to ride. There is nothing wrong with the 500 I just find the 650 to be way more exciting. I may be biased as I love V twins and the EX does not feel like it pulls as hard. My dad has a 2007 EX500 and I have ridden it many times and it is a great bike but I bought an SV after one ride. There is no other small displacement bike that feels as strong. I don't mean it is the fastest it just feels like its pulling super hard from the available torque. I bought the SV to keep the miles off of my Ducati 999

    Re: Winter project....what to do!?

The stock bodywork is now off. Engine protection and sliders are installed. Woodcraft clipons with 1 1/2 riser installed. FP levers installed. Optimal plastic bodywork will be fitted soon. New tires/make and type are what I'm struggling with now!? Diablo Supercorsa or Pirelli Track day Pro from MTAG or.......any thoughts? TY
*The bike is for track day only FUN!

Sorry to repeat like a Parrot....I just realized I asked the same question back in October with several good replies. The Pirelli SC from Tony...including install seems like a good choice! TTD added April 28 and hopefully they will have tire service available on that day!?

they werent always that way. mine are hotbodies from who knows how long ago...8 years? i dont crash a lot so theyve held up fairly well. kid here at work has offered to patch up some of the cracks and holes for me

They repair with a $20 fiberglass repair kit from the auto-parts store and a rattle can.

If the price were right, I would not avoid Hotbodies were I to do it over again.
you may have the same generation that i have. i have heard the their quality has gone down, but i have yet to actually see it.
