Question 0 to 60MPH even matter any more?

Are the days gone when folks would gather in a soda stained parking lot and bring up the time required to sprint to 60 mph? It seemed like such a big deal years ago, today not so much.

I mean really, does it even matter as 60mph seems to be a fraction of what most of these machines can really do?

i think the 0-100-0 times are much more relevant..

that was becoming a standard of measurement once, but its not politically correct to advertise anything that can only legally be done on a track i guess..

Re: 0 to 60MPH even matter any more?

I find with most even moderately powerful bikes it's not a good benchmark for speed. Most are under 5 seconds (hell, maybe even 4). That's absurdly fast from the get go, and just gets terrifyingly quick from there.

With cars I can see it being slightly more useful, since it can paint a decent picture of the cars power/weight ratio. Some cars 0-60 times are much faster than you would think. On top of that, cars that aren't necessarily "sports cars" have very respectable 0-60 times.

I don't know if any of that makes sense, I've had a lot of sugar today.

plus all that 0-60 won't help you if you don't know how to get around NHIS

1/4 mile is the stat I paid attention to, never cared about 0-60.

And not so much for bikes, but 60-80 is something I'd look at for cars.

It is a number that is so hard to publish. The 0-60 or even the 0-100-0 for most of these bikes is sooo dependant on rider weight. This is a huge and everchanging variable that is not so much an issue with cars.

Rider skill has somethin to do with it too... Mabe even more so than weight. And the length of the swingarm.

I'd say it isn't what your bike can do but what YOU can do that would be more impressive.

Posers do not even count. I just tell them it goes faster than they think.

    ^^ Loved that!

Honestly I don't know the value of 0-60 because on these bikes it happens so fast. I mean with my bike I couldn't keep the front wheel down enough to even get a good guesstimate. I mean I only weigh 150 pounds so it will throw me right off.

I bet you put Ricky Gadsen on there and you'll get a good estimate. I bet he weighs less too.

Point is... Learn to ride it and you will get more out of it. You CAN keep the front wheel down. Lean into it, slip the clutch a bit and gas it.

Disclaimer: This by no means implies I am an expert, just that half the fun is the learning.

That wasn't me posting. I left my account open at work, and a few people dicked around with it.
