The only Kawi cdi box that has failed that I know of, in all my years is the one on that ZX6R that the kid drilled (6) holes through when he installed his undertail. Kawi cdi's just never really fail. Best of luck with it.

Mine went on my 95 it does happen. I think your on the right track with the ignition bud. Download a service manual for the bike or pick up s Haynes though. You could have tested your CSI to see if it was junk before you bought another one. Plus unless you test the new one there's no guarantee that if it doesn't fix the problem that its not just broken as well. Good luck with everything.

No it was the Cdi, and just cause it has carbs doesn't mean there is no cdi what do you think controls the ignition, and rev limiter? The fzrs all had cdi's two. And plenty of others as well.

enough is enough, I can't figure it out, I went and bought a used CDI box on ebay for 40 shipped, hoping this will fix it. Would be epic if it did.... IF anyone has a 01-06 i think ninja 500 let me know

or if anyone wants to see bike in person let me know i can after my work closes.

Back in the 80's ( before you were born ) they went to elektronik ignition. This is when CDI boxes came into play, It wasn't the addition of FI.
