2012: 32 races at LRRS, 5 races at NJMP, 3 Friday practices, and 6 track days (NHMS, NJMP). Bought a suit.
(so far) 2013: 29 races at LRRS, 9 races at NJMP, 3 Friday practices, and 3 track days (NHMS, VIR). Bought a bike.

i wouldn't say I barely rode this year, considering there's round round 7 at NHMS, Hammer school at Daytona, and 4 races at Daytona.

Don't have an R1, but want to comment in general. I think that swapping bikes for a few days is not enough time to get used to a new bike. I had an FZ6 which was a great commuter bike and after 2.5 years got a VFR. For the first couple of weeks I thought I made a mistake and couldn't get comfortable. Got helibars. Got comfortable and now think I will go back to stock bars. Got a Superhawk stock and again found it took a couple of weeks to get used to the riding position and how to ride that bike. So, I think it takes time to figure out bikes and a first impression is often not enough. I find the VFR is utterly comfortable now. I also know not to ride at 3k rpm as the throttle is sensitive. Bike magazine had the R1 for 15k miles. Their conclusion were that it was somewhat of a gas gobbler but mostly great bike. The sound and looks are amazing. A gsxr1000 is likely a better commuter, but to me more bland.
