I got a ticket yesterday for rolling a 4 way stop sign early in the A.M. No other cars on the road. I never saw the piggy, so I guess I was distracted, but I was paying more than enough attention to the conditions. Glad jail time is not an option here.

The problem is that enforcing a speed limit is 100x easier than enforcing any distracted driving rule. So there we have it. What is safe doesn't matter nearly as much as what is easily enforced. The "it's all about revenue" line seems snide. But it is pretty close to reality.

True, but I bet if people's insurance rates went up for distracted driving tickets like they did for speed infractions you'd see increased enforcement.

Geico, among others, was notorious in the 80's for buying departments radar guns so it was easier to pop people for speeding, thus raising their rates. It was almost a no brainer business wise, the cost of the gun would be paid for by increased premiums in the first week of use. Ethically it was disgusting.

Lots of anecdotes here about how cops let people off with warnings.
15 years ago and before 9-11 is a universe away from now in terms of police power/attitude.

It does still happen though. I got a warning from a local cop where I could ave been stuffed in a cruiser for sure. Then again, a MSP dude read me the riot act for doing 5 over in the middle lane on 495 where people were passing me on the left.

I'm probably 50/50 on getting complete dicks for cops on a traffic stop vs. dealing with an actual human.

Sometimes the shit I got stopped for was justified, sometimes not. Total crapshoot

and Degsy, from all the posts I've read about you getting pulled over, I bet you're getting tickets for being a dick/smart ass to the cop more then for what you were actually pulled over for. Shit, doing 50 when you know it will screw up traffic is a perfect example.

I can picture it now. Cop ends up pulling you over for whatever reason to see why your holding up traffic. You start doing what you have posted here that you do and you get a ticket. big surprise. Its as much how you say it as what you say. Maybe they just don't like your accent...British is it?

I have been pulled over a lot and I can only recall one ever being a dick. If he writes you a ticket he's not being a dick, that's his job. Most every cop I've dealt with has been pleasant, and that's not part of the job.

And FYI i have never been anything but professional and polite to any officer who has pulled me over. I have never treated a police officer with disrespect, no matter how cunty they have been.

And by the way, a real cop would be able to see past any attitude. My tongue will NEVER go up a cops ass to get me
