    Why dont ambulances go faster?
I mean, I see them on the highway with lights and sirens and I pass them and im only doing 10 over. If I was in the back of that ambulance id want to see some effort to get me there before I die.
Same with fire trucks, if your dept gets called to a 4 alarm fire, it would he nice if those trucks could get there before the fire was put out
For realz. Last time I rode the bus I desperately wanted them to haul ass until we hit an on/off ramp and all the bones shifted. Morphine, please.

having very limited experience of "drifting" a tracked log skidder across an icy log yard once, I can tell you that it's an uneasy feeling you get, at least the first time (and my last) We had some angled grousers welded on the track the next day.

This is our new work truck I was tasked with delivering to the body shop. Lighter than our other f550 the thing drifted like a champ.

Reminds me of the day an F150 Lightning pulled up next to me at the lights one morning in my dinky-ass little Miata .. in the rain.

Never driven anything truly large and heavy. Closest I got was a 5,000 gallon fuel truck. If you stopped fast enough in the wet the fuel would slam to the front and slide the whole truck forward some even with all the wheels locked

It was entertaining at the time, but looking back at it now, it was pretty stupid to screw around with those. Ahhhh, youth.

We prefer the term "slop load".

I imagine most of the newer stuff is, but definitely not on the older stuff. There are a few people here who drive for a living, I'm sure they'd know more details. I just screwed around with them on airports.

Fat pension? Sucks that people actually believe that.

Compared to most of us in the "private" world, ANY pension is FAT.

I drifted a 26' box truck once across 2 lanes, almost took out several mailboxes. That stop sign came out of nowhere LOL

Fuel trucks are baffled. Milk trucks aren't because if you slosh milk through baffels it turns into cheese....or butter or whatever. Ether way moral of the story is never cut of a milk truck, even if it stops it might still hit you when the titty juice catches up.

Makes butter! Hahaa! I can see the truck driver sayin " I don't understand, I was taking it easy". Then having to peel back the top of the trailer to get the butter out. Or heat it up to make ghee!

and I always thought milk tankers were compartment-ed

about 25 years ago, my town bought a cab & chassis for the fire department as a tanker, they sent it to some company in Ohio that was low bid on putting a tank on. when filled with water, it would pop wheelies, town sued company, but they had filed bankruptcy

Re: Go 100 MPH go to Jail?

I would have to agree with Degsy in that I hold cops in very low regard, and can hardly summon any respect for them. Back where I was born, and that time when I was born, police corruption was out in plain, public view. We used to have to bribe them a lot, and nobody could do, or would do, anything about it. Want to cross into Kiev and the Karpatian mountains? Bribe 'em. You would get randomly stopped on a street, your car searched at gun point, and more than likely, something seized. I remember when we were stopped by soldier cops and we had to give them out food (but in this case, it's cause they were forced to be there and they were freezing their asses off in wintery winds).

I don't think I will ever forget the moment when my grandparents and I were travelling to Ukraine, and back, and the mother f@#$ing cops decided they would let my grandpa and I through, but force my grandma to stay behind. It was a very tense moment. We had to bribe them to let my grandmother go back to the US with us.

One can argue that that was Ukraine, and this is America, and it's different, but it's your experiences that shape how you interact with people in the future. I, for one, never regained my respect for them and their jobs. All I see is fear, intimidation, and corruption. My experiences with them colored my entire opinion of them. Maybe there are good cops out there, but they are few and far in between, and so far, I haven't met a single one of high caliber.

The ones I worked with about 8 years ago were, at least on the tractor trailers. Front and rear compartments, about 3500 gal. each. I've been inside them to inspect and clean by hand. There are "single bore" trailers of about 5000 gal, but they usually carry water. Most straight trucks are a single tank, but there are no "baffles" in any milk truck I've seen. I have unloaded a half tank of cream that came from New York, took a lot of hot water and steam to get the butter balls out of that one!

I actually think milk trucks are smoothbore to prevent bacteria. Much like a stainless steel sink in a restaurant kitchen, they arents supposed to have 90 corners because they are hard to claen and bacteria thrive there. The same would be true inside a milk tank if there were baffles. I would assume that theres more to butter than just sloshing around some milk.

Nope. Butter is made by sloshing around some milk.

Yeah, I'm probably full of shit on that one. I remember someone telling me that but it doesn't mean its true. On the bright side it completely derailed the discussion and stopped everyone from arguing about how shitty cops are. Your welcome.
