try on for size - it fits me. height is about the same. seat is on the hard side. the position aggressiveness is about the same as zx10. the spring feels stiff with few mm left to unwind compare to 1000rr... loved it but for $20k... damn! can't wait for the test ride.

I'll spank it all day on my 999s.

999 is the last of the real Ducatis.

    1098 is an apple
    ZX10 is an orange.

ZX10 will kick it's ass all day in a straight line, total power, etc.

1098 will beat the ZX10 around a track though. (with the right rider)

Anybody else read the latest Cycle World? They posted some impressive 1/4 mile times (high 9s) and 0-60 numbers (<2.6 seconds) for the 1098. I think it would be closer to the 10R in a straight line than previously thought. That said, with an as tested price of $22,700 it ought to be impressive.

    Gorgeous bike.

    the 1098s already beat the 999s by 99s(1098s - 999s = 99s) without doing anything.

rear tire size is 190/55 Pirelli something stock. why do they choose Pirelli? must be good tire.

i own a 1098s. can't say whether it would nip a 999, but it has completely reinvigorated my street riding. after being on the track for 2 years (636) i thought the street was dead to me. but the duc is stunning, and the power is everywhere. a totally visceral experience. i've never loved a machine before. now i'm hooked.

First off, I dont know anything firsthand about ducati or V-twin sport bikes, so I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but why do you consider the 999's to be the last "real" ducs?

I like to know as well. This is the first time I see someone refer the 1098 as not a real ducati, can you elaborate?

Nope! The 1098s is a beautiful bike.

What i will say is this: Ducatis are notoriously bad handlers right out of the box. I have a TON of suspension work and geometry work into mine and I have just got to the point where i feel it is as good as I can get it (almost, I need some 27mm offset triples). That said, I can probably get my 999S around a track quicker than i could get a stock 1098S around the same track.

Having never ridden one, I can't say for sure. I did say me riding both bikes, not someone else :-)

I thought your 999 handled great right out of the box. I was suprised how flickable it was cause the 916 generation bikes just didn't want to turn at all!

I think the 1098 is a new breed of Duc for sure. One that has up to the minute tech on it...

    Paul,

Do you mean its got a tech that follows you around
at all minutes of the day ready for those Italian Parts to
    fail ? ;-)

Did you know what FIAT means ?

Fix It Again, eh Tony ?

FYI Motor Cyclist in latest issue had a good article
that compared the 999 to the 1098.
To summerize the 999 out of the box handles better
than the 1098, so 999 lap times were marginally better
    than the 1098
