Re: 16 year old killed in motorcycle crash.

    Stopping distance 350 feet
Decel rate 0.86 g (give or take)
PDR time= 0 (start the measurement at the start of the skid)
    Approx speed? 95mph.

I hope my math is wrong.

RIP and an early warning for all of us. Be safe out there.

Got my motorcycle license at 16, *before* my driver's license.... I think being 16 has nothing to do with it.....I think having a fixation with speed and adrenaline had a lot to do with it. RIP young man... everyone be careful out there.

not as fast as you might think. i'd say less than 120. i was over a 100 yards from my bike when we both stopped. and i alone slid about 100 yards.

RIP always sad to lose a rider that young. i started out at 16 with no dirt experiance, an EX250, a floppy helmet, and baseball gloves. "there but for the grace of god go i"... i'm sure i'm not the only one here that had that thought pop into thier head. poor kid never had a chance to learn what proper helmet fit was.

I started out when I was 16 on a KLR650 and I am still here. Got the GSXR750 when I was 17 and wouldn't change anything. I really love riding and it would really suck if I couldn't ride until I was older.

I agree....A kid making poor judgment at 16 will make the same poor judgment at 21....period.....Now a saftey training class ALL motorcycle permits would be a good idea.... this would give them a few skills...maybe miss that first poll....many folks I know who drive like morons in cars...dont last long with bikes.... the wreck the bikes quick and dont want to ride anymore... trust me, the roads are safer

That statement is only correct if you had no driving experience at all. Your motor skills and basic driving skills are honed by driving a car. You know the rules of the road and get consciously aware of your surroundings by driving a car so by delaying the age you are getting valuable road experience. Yes you might not be able able to still ride a bike, but you put a new bike rider on the road that has no car road experience you are asking for trouble, they don't know what to look for in bad situations.

    Graduated (Tiered) licences.

The only solution to minimizing this problem.

I don't know. Going through MSF and working for MSF has really made me a better rider and driver. If I had never rode a motorcycle I would have never become as good of a driver as I am now. I find myself driving more defensively and cautiously, as well as riding.

In my first statement I said anyone under 21 should have to take the class. I have taken both the beginner and experienced rider classes and advocate them both as I learned things that help me everyday.

In the short I think it should be mandatory to anyone under 21.

And that is the damn truth even I can be stupid sometimes still. Its the training and experience that help me to override the stupid and slap my own hand

I will agree with that. I have not taken the ERC and don't really plan on taking it, but everyone under 21 should take the BRC. I do not believe in the whole permitting process either. I think that everyone should pass the license test before it is legal to ride.

Jesus, this sort of thing always makes me think. I'm all for tiered licensing, especially now that I am old enough not to be affected by it. I still have no idea how I survived my learning phase - I started on a 97 GSX-R 750 track bike (and I don't mean I was using it on a track) when I was 17. I know a lot better now and I'm just glad I somehow survived those first few years.

Re: 16 year old killed in motorcycle crash.

An auto driver's permit - is different from a motorcycle permit as I went to the Ma. RMV & found out. There are so many limitations on tweens for a auto permit & licenses. Look for yourself -For a motorcycle - you need a parent concent, pass 18 of 25 questions, eye exam, $30., no passengers, ride in daylight,& stay in Ma.,permit is good for 2 yrs.
Road or off road - time & experience are important, quaility gear is as well.

On city roads - you have city drivers, signs all over the place, bicyclist, walkers, people on cell phones, drunks, ect. Counrty roads - you got leaf pepers, animals, sand, ice, tree limbs, less cars,& have to be 16 and ride in Ma.

Off road - trees, wire across trails, hunters, riding where it's aloud, can be any age, no permit needed, can ride out of state, less people on trails depending where you live.

It's a chance any parents takes signing a concert form for a kid - if it's hockey, baseball,or soccer - there's dangers in everything our kids do. It's a risk we take - some are good some are deadly.

    Regardless, its a sad event.

yes sad event, but no reason to jump to conclusions, but maybe if he wasn't riding at a high rate of speed thru a residential area and major intersecting road he wouldn't have crashed in the first place

the helmet may or may not have protected his head, you don't know, I don't know, one thing I do know, he certainly would still be alive if he didn't crash in the first place

google map the location at the intersection of edison & east street in Brockton, from either direction he has a good ½ mile or more straight to get going fast
