In that case I can't justify the money and time.

Yes, it is a good idea but I just have so many other things to accomplish with my money. And I think I will get some good hints at the IPW this weekend haha.

Re: 16 year old killed in motorcycle crash.

I'll be meeting with the MASS RMV motorcycle rep and the owners of all the MSF schools this morning at the Mass Safety Council. We are meeting to address this exact thing. I'm only sorry that we couldn't get this done a month sooner and this kid might be alive. It sickens me actually, especially having a son now. You can say the parents were irresponsible, you can say the kid was irresponsible, but in the end it's not a crime to be ignorant and a life is a high price to pay for a mistake combined with youthful exuberance. This kid had a desire to ride motorcycles which makes him a fallen fellow biker. Biker for a minute, biker for a lifetime, doesn't matter, it is a state of mind. In some way he was one of us and might well have been a friend of ours and a member here given a few more months.

I'll update on our meeting later on today. I'm hoping to announce to you guys some free MSF Sportbike-only classes for specific groups this season.

Ironic, he was killed less than a half mile where I teach most of my MSF classes.

My choices seem similar to yours, hopefully I survive the learning phase too. I wanted a bike at 16 but didn't end up with one untill I was 20... The extra 4 years in the car and the MSF makes my experiances on a bike much more enjoyable not having to worry about normal road conditions or situations that would trouble someone at 16.

    RIP man

Problem is you don't know what you don't know

You only know what you already know you know; you know?

and no one really knows as much as they think ("know"?) they do

    RIP

PS: I don't think any state in the US has the money, time, or manpower to implement tiered licensing, as good an idea as it may be. But we sure need better education and licensing requirements.

I feel so sad for him and his family. Such a waste. At 16, you've barely gotten going in life...

    +1.

I'm pretty damn sure I learned a lot about driving in the ten years between when I got my license and when I got my moto endorsement. Some of the mistakes I made on four wheels would've ended very poorly on two. And given how quickly I got comfortable with being at speed on a bike, I don't think that the lack of protection around me would have made a particularly significant impact on my attitude towards speed and approaching the limits of traction. There's no way in hell it would have been a good idea for me to have been on a bike at 17 or 18, BRC or not. IMO, it's a lot better for drivers at that end of the learning curve to have a cage around them, even if it makes us more dangerous for those of us that on two wheels around them.

    RIP.

Any accident is tragic - especially when there is a death.

We can just hope that this isn't the start of a long riding season filled with RIP's.

That's the answer no Motorcycle endorsement until you have 2 years of driving with no accidents and say no more than one moving violation.

The 1st tier is car only

I work in a office in Brockton and have a ton of patients who went to his school. I have had kids coming in all week wearing buttons for him and talking about what happened.

    yeah I dunno bout that.

Psychologically, there's a LOT of difference. Mainly in the "consequence prediction" (or whatever you wanna call it) part of the brain, especially in males. That part isn't fully functional until in the mid 20's.

in florida anyone under 21 that wants a bike licensce has to complete the BRC. it's been like that since i was 16 at least. no reason it shouldn't be the same everywhere.

I like it too. It doesn't disallow younger people from riding and makes a huge step in safety.
