    short story long:

My sister in laws boyfriend (follow that?) just bought a 2005 Hyusong 650 his only experience is riding 50cc dirtbike for half a summer last year. I PLEADED with him to go to the MSC but he basically refuses because in his opinion it is too expensive. BULL SHIT he has the money but he is 17 and cant be hurt or get in trouble with the law. So he only has a permit and is riding a bike he CAN NOT control. I give him shit but it goes through one ear and out the other. If there was a law he would HAVE to go to the course

I just hope he doesnt seriously hurt himself......no joke

at least his heart is in the right place.
I wonder how hard it would be for the state to legislate training for under 18 year old riders? What would be the downside? Would we see people riding without permits?
It seems to be a double-edged sword.

On one hand the state is fully committed to educating your sportbike riders and then on the other hand it doesn't seem to be getting the right attention from the financial point of view.

We are going to end up with a mandated MSF rule I think. I am very concerned that you can just walk into the RMV and walk out and jump on a 'busa. To someone who grew up in europe this just seems like handing a baby a loaded gun.

I mean, yes it is tragic, but at the same time until it happens does anyone seriously consider the consequences? Did the parents of this young man think about what might happen when they signed his permit application?

plenty of blame to go around.
I think the family is suffering enough. The price was too great, but yes, I certainly would not have played it the way they played it.

Europe does it the right way. Restricting the cc's you can be licensed for based on experience is the best way to keep things like this from happening. Even if you take the BRC, you can still hop on a bike that will go 0 - 100 in 3 gears and kill yourself.

try 0-100 in ONE gear... Most I4 liter bikes will do that now... It's nuts.

well, additional news is that this was his first time on the bike. His brother owned it and let him ride it around the block. So sad.

Yes there needs to be a LAW

    against buying a Hyosung

Actually you aren't a full citizen until 21. Everyone recognizes that children need a special set of rules. The recent brain image studies show that the consequences portion of the brain doesn't even activate until 21 and is underdeveloped until 25.
