1998 CBR900RR

Im looking to buy a 98 CBR900RR... was wondering if there was any negitive feed back on it. like handleing, recalls anythin.. will it come up easy i like to ride wheelies lol.. would i be better off buying a 750 or different bike? im getting rid of my kawi600r wantin to upgrade and not get burned.. any feedback would be appreciated thx... smokey

Although I like a well placed wheelie, I'm not one to judge a purchase based on a bike's ability to stack one. That being said, I've never been a fan of the 900R's handling. Just never liked the way they felt. Lots of power though. Be wary, many have been abused and/or stunted...

Stoneman is correct. Although, I actually have a 98 900RR stunted and I'll sell for cheap (if stunting is what you're interested in doing with it, it's perfect). I have gearing, bar, new pads, chrome rims, polished frame, polished swingarm, full hindle exhaust, scotts steering damper, frame sliders, and spare parts / tires. The 900RR is a strong bike, big frame, and low throttle response for smooth wheelies. The carbs make it bad for bar combos.... and it sometimes stalls when coasting wheelies. That holds true for all 900RR's though.... the carbs tend to run out of gas when it's vertical or sliding for long distance. The newer FI bikes do not run out of gas, but the hyper sensative throttle response make wheelies difficult for newbs.

PS. The 900RR is a.k.a SHERMAN TANK and I don't recommend it for track. It's pretty much a comfortable street bike with tons of wheelie potential. Oh, and the big, fat, thick frame makes for a posser's dream. The polished / chrome potential is second to none. So if you wanna look sweet cruising up Hampton Beach with colored spiked hair, wearing shorts, sandles, and oakley's while pickin up 16 year olds, then this bike is perfect for you

The 900 RR is a great bike, especially for stunting... in my opinion it's one of the best looking sportbikes of all time.

Am I remembering correctly with this bike.... didn't the early ones come with a 16" front rim and then they switched to a 17" rim? for handling reasons.

The 16" front wheel held on the production models until the 929RR in 2000. In 2000, Honda put the inverted forks, 19" wheel, and the bigger front disc brake system.

The 929 front end bolts right up perfectly to the 900RR frame. It appears the owner to the bike in the picture above also did the same. Those forks appear inverted and the rim / brake disc looks bigger. Also looks like the 929 front fender.

Hampton was great in high school, it was trashy and there were whorey high school girls. Now it is all minorites that think they are tough fucks and its far too trashy. There are much nicer beach areas to be had.

Some of you might have seen the shark painted tail I used on my f4i racebike a few times. That tail section came from Kurtis Robert's Erion CBR900RR. I bought it complete with the Erion paint job and the AMA #1 plate still on it.

hmm... weird.

I have a 16" and a '98. Core 6 rode nothing but 900RR's for a while. We all rode '95-'99 RR's.... and many of them. I distinctly remember it being a 16" all the way through '99 because we had leads for used tires from dealerships. We were never able to get free fronts because the 900RR's were the only bikes running 16". The forks and all.... same same. They changed the upper, upper bracket, headhight assembly, and added a digital temp to the dash in '98, but I'm almost positive nothing else changed.

Nah dude! It was at Smokenn because it seemed his only concern about a bike was how easily it wheelies. Can't get rip wheelies on a 600 with a sproket change just as easliy?

From what I recal Brian is correct. The 900RR always had the 16" front wheel and tire throughout it's life span. There were a lot of people that sourced the front wheels of the F2s and F3s of the day that were 17" and used them on the front of their CBRs due to better tire selection.
