    2001 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa - breakdirt916

stretch swingarm, turbo, nos, night drag racing brah

51k ish miles, chain "2k ago" (meaning maybe 10k ago?), "tires 60%" (meaning tires 30%), plastics came silver and painted blue....mechanic owned, but was as honest as a mechanic could be with me

top case, some touring, some commuting, sell it in the spring

another occasion that winch assisted motorcycle loading was worth the investment

It was so piggy, that even out of a 2wd truck with a “ladder” type ramp (readyramp), as the back tire was on the ground the front tire was sliding down locked. Front brake was not enough to slow it down. Be careful unloading this beast

Quick spin down the street under 6k, oops 60mph

So far it looks like a flip bike for me. Maybe 4-6 months and sell.

if I intend to do any commutes/grocery runs on it, I absolutely need a top case for the jacket/helmet

terrified of the cost having used a Givi product on the Vstrom, google shows that other busa users have successfully speed test china stuff

Amazon.com: Comie Motorcycle Tour Tail Box Scooter Trunk Luggage Top Lock Storage Carrier Case w/Soft backrest&Handle - 48L Capacity - Can Store Two (2) Helmet (Black): Automotive

for $53 shipped, it's worth trying and throwing out after 6 months

SW mototech makes a mount under the rear seat, or I could just bolt the mounting plate to a junk stock rear seat (found one on CL) then put the bubble cowl back on when I sell it

May not be a bad idea to buy a Givi top case, then all you'll have to do is buy a different mount for your next steed. Congrats, you're now like Wile E. Coyote on an Acme rocket.

FI light came on...stopped by the local mechanic and he said it's likely the aftermarket exhaust...google shows there is a connector you an bridge with a wire to see codes

so the bike was -1/+2 re-geared so the speedo is off by roughly 15%....but still, I short shifted until 3rd then got on it, and oops 115mph indicated

the thing about this bike is that 97mph felt like 40 on the FZR...it's deceptively fast...so even if you are gently rolling on at 5krpm you are suddenly going faster than you expected. When you are really getting on it in the upper rpm range to feel the rush, then you are playing in the triple digit speeds real quick

as expected with any big bike, mid range/cruising torque is more than adequate, so cruising in top gear, rolling on is very comfortable....excellent cruising bike...but definitely better above 40-50mph

Shifter is too high - easy to upshift but felt like I had to lift my leg to downshift

Yes , put her into dealer mode and join Hayabusa.org

Full service manual and code read out is at the site , plus the world most knowledgeable Busa guys .

And since we are guessing what's wrong .

I say the code is a weak fuel system from the pump being old and the filter being gummed up.

    Re: 2001 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa - breakdirt916

The $53 top case case came in - obviously a little more flimsy than a Givi as expected, in terms of construction plastic and hinges...but from the initial feel, it looks more than adequate for what I am using it for

it does fit 2 helmets as advertised, but the interior shape is a *little* off so you gotta twist things around for a snug/tight fit

gotta toss that dusty 2nd helmet

one of the local Long Beach neighbors came over telling me not to add it since it takes away from the appeal/cosmetics/look of the bike. he said get a bacpack...he also told me he could handle it and wanted to ride it. sorry brah....not a busa.

my needs: will it fit a helmet, jacket, and knee guards if I rode somewhere?

    yes

from what I've read on the forums, the busa is not a bike that has a variety of inexpensive luggage options. This ain't no Vstrom. As a result owners have periodically found ways to adapt their own - cheapest way is this $53 case, with the rack bolted to a used $30 passenger seat. Next step is $237 rack to hold said case...then the cost doubles and triples if you want bike specific parts, name brand cases, saddle bags, and paint matched equipment. I know a top case bolted to a old seat is ugly, but I am using it for commuting, grocery runs, touring, and will take all of it off in the spring when I sell it. Maybe add some heated grips, remove/store the lower fairings, and add an LED auxiliary lighting kit with the flashing brake lights and extra marker running lights to provide extra safety visibility for the "is that a car with a headlight out?" appearance of most motorcycles. Bike already has a yosh pipe (which is honestly pretty mellow) so hopefully it saves lives.

fyi the red on the top case are not lights. they are not even reflectors...just red lenses maybe I can mount an aux brake/tail light there

Edit: dropped the shifter one notch lower and it is way easier to shift and more comfortable on the knees. Finally finding my central balance point and getting weight off my wrists.

    Re: 2001 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa - breakdirt916

Did my first commute and tried some freeway rolls...it will definitely get you there quickly.

The crazy part is it is so damned stable on the way you don’t feel like you are going the speed you are...silky smooth and solid

What that means to me is that it’s easy to override your braking safety bubble. Especially with lane splitting you really just need to slow down and be prepared to stop at any time. So I still have been riding like a cop is behind me. The good news is this bike cruises quite comfortably in top gear, and still has power to pass without shifting. Never looked for 7th gear. Torque rules. I still need a top case...ran over to a unit to grab rent and mail and couldn’t fit it all under the cowl. I also went to dinner with friends and hated holding a helmet and wearing a jacket The whole time.

Found a Bazzaz quick shift unit under the seat

    First gas up 30.4mpg

    Re: 2001 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa - breakdirt916

Naw...thought I would get the stereotypes out of the way early

She gets a little hot in stop and go traffic when it’s 80 out

I am consciously not running any yellow lights...keeping a braking bubble like I am riding in snow, lots of space and off the gas early

And the bike cuts out a wee bit off the line...solved with more throttle...maybe that’s what the FI light is flashing for. Hopefully getting a chance to check codes this weekend

Does not fall into turns like the Weestrom...May be tires as the front pushed a little on my favorite exit ramp. Best get fresh tires before a canyon run. Tire pressure was high 20’’s and I aired to 40 per the frame stamp

Edit: sad day in the OC...3 moto fatalities this AM during commuting...a cager swerved into the HOV lane and put a biker into the median, bounced back then hit by a Jetta. 2nd guy rear ended a truck that was trying to redirect traffic. Separately a guy rear ended a semi then got run over by a car. Be safe out there fellas

Edit 2: with 40psi it returned an adequate 35.9mpg...this ain’t no Prius and that’s pretty good

I would bet that it stops better than you think it would. I do understand giving it a little bit of respect though. Fast, powerful, not so light (lighter than a lot of bikes in its class though) bike that is new to you.
