Does the Hayabusa have drain holes for the spark plug recesses in the head? On the TL/SV variants there is a drain hole that sometimes gets blocked by spiders and things like that and then the plug cavity, typically the front facing cylinder, can fill up with water and behave like you are describing.

maybe I should unload the Busa for sure and just get tires for the Ninja and ride that (factory exhaust)

    also...
1.) when it rained last week, I had an uphill start from a light and the rear end fishtailed sideways under power over white painted lines 2001 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa - breakdirt916
2.) water is pooling somewhere - after it rained, the bike ran on 3 cylinders for a couple days...then resolved
3.) the pilot road tires are $220/piece...I need a new one after 2-3 months of riding...if I keep commuting on this it will easily be $1,000+/year alone on rear tires
How about Pilot Powers? I've had the same pair on my CBR900RR and GSXR750 SRAD for a few years n I love em. Won't ride anything else

Will have to check for drain holes...bike has been parked outside and an SV guy said the same on other zukis

I was thinking about swapping the tire, but the front is a PR and on a bike like this, best to match?

May just ride this tire out, break in a new one and park it until selling in March/April...switch commuter duties to the Ninja 500R

Honestly dude, you just need to buy an SV. It’s cheap, bland as fuck, and costs next to nothing to maintain. It’s perfect for you.

I've searched...haven't seen one drop into my lap at a really low price. seemed like it would be more fun that vstrom...and my friend said it has hardware for a top case no problem.

    okay few things learned:
-the FI light is related to the quick shifter - at one point the light went off, and the quick shifter stopped working
-the rear tire kicks out sideways uphill in rain over white painted lines
-the "runs on 3 cylinders" went away after a few days of dry weather
-the current tires are Michelin Pilot Road 3 - generally $220-$230 on a quick google search...Chaparral had them for $190 so I ordered one up. Will run the current tire as far as I feel safe, mount the new tire in Feb/Mar, break it in, then sell the bike by April-ish. Front tire is fine. Also needs an oil change, high beam, and horn...and a fork seal ...but you "shouldn't be scared of fork seals"
-the only couple more rides I want to do are - long ride day, hit a mountain pass (near A13x) in San Diego county that the Vstrom struggled to go up, maybe try it at a drag strip nearby

all in all, I am glad to say that I "rode a cruise missile" for awhile as a commuter

top case will get transitioned to the Ninja and by April/May that bike will be the new commuter rat...but I will also be moving closer to work, so it may just be recreational/track day duty

ahhh...the rain stopped and the bike is running on 4 cylinders again and I'm commuting again

it was also super windy, and man, this thing is SO DAMN STABLE. it actually has functional fairings that cut through wind like a knife

I took pics of the sunsets...THEY GOT BETTER EVERY NIGHT!

    man...this is just from commuting!

and pro-tip - when getting this bike over, you don't counter steer as much

I have the new pilot road ready for when I roast this one

it needed front brakes so I took a week break...it rained anyways, and even after a few days after the rain, she's running on 3 cylinders again. water must be pooling somewhere and it doesn't dry up until I run it and evaporate it

anyways, I saw it on RCR so thought it was worth posting...he is right, it is docile and easy to ride when you're not on it

well, I had the bike at the mechanic for a tire, and another customer wants to buy it for $1,800...he wants the motor so he can slot it into his '06 with 125,00+ miles

I'm moving 1.5 miles from work, renting a room/bathroom/garage bay for $900/month and I don't want to have a ton of excess

I think I'm going to do it...ride a Busa for 6 months and make money? hell yeah!

it was definitely, definitely worth it...the bike is an amazing piece of engineering

next stop - the Ninja 500R life

just buying a cycle and paying MA tax fees puts me out of this bike roulette life you live
