    2005 Kawasaki ZZR600

Anyone own one? Any probs? There are a couple for sale and once I sell my SV (hopefully this weekend) I am going to start searching again for a new bike.

    Thanks!

It's an 00-02 ZX6R. They changed the fairing stay, that's it. Carbureted, once-competetive supersport that now looks more like a SPORT-tourer compared to modern 600s.

If you want a single bike that can handle 300+ mile days and still be suitable for the track, it's spot on. There are better handling bikes, and there are more comfortable bikes, but the zzr is a good mix of both. Enough seat to peg clearance for a 6' plus rider, a relatively upright seating position compared to the race reps, but finding its limits and dragging parts would require a good rider on the track or a suicidal one on the streets.

As for weaknesses, it's carbureted (if that's not your ballgame), the cam chain tensioner tended to go sour early on 98-01 models (Think they fixed that in 02 though), and they tend to have a pronounced flat spot at 7k where they lean the midrange out for emmissions...Nothing a jet kit couldn't fix though.

I love my 98 zx6r and would have kept it forever if I didn't get a track bike and take a years hiatus from street riding. But since I've got a track bike, I'm thinking a more mild street bike with some more creature comforts is in the cards next time around. 98-01 VFR, maybe?

Actually my husband found that link and that's why I posted. It's around the amount I want to spend so I thought I'd ask around here about it.

what Darrell said.... I fuckin love my bike. 22k miles on the clock & no problems I couldn't get fixed myself or with a helping hand.

I've done 400+ mile days on that bike more than once and although i wasn't exacly a happy camper at the end, it was more than doable. It's also great on the track... love it. W/ a few suspension & geometry adjustments it handles very well.

My only complaint would be the brakes. Fine on the street but a little weak on the track, but that was helped w/ HH pads. I haven't even gone to SS lines yet although I may if i keep the bike for another season. Haven't needed em for the street at all, but once you start pushing it on the track you can kinda feel the lines expanding under the pressure.

You're more than welcome to come check mine out sometime. Assuming you've still got a bike, we can go for a rip & swap bikes for a bit.
