    2007 GSXR 1000

    Pros? Cons?

I killed the Z and almost myself and I've had my eyes on one of these jammies with the red white and blue color scheme for a while. It's pristine.

I know GSXR haters will hate....so who gives a shit. Just wondering about the 2007 model in particular?

I am gladly turning to the dark GSXR side. Was going to get a new R1 with the cp crank but this is too sweet a deal to pass up.

    Thanks.

I saw BigShel's orange black ride when he first got it on a VT ride a year or two ago. Anyhow, I'm buying one that has only a few miles on it and has been rubbed with a diaper since production. red white and blue

Big change from 06 to 07. 05/06 are the same bike. 07/08 are the same...

07/08, probably the most lackluster the GSXR1000 has been. Mild styling. Hated the hydro clutch. Kinda heavy. Kinda bland with the power delivery. The 05/06 was the most violent of the bunch. The 07/08 was nothing to be confused with a violent liter bike. The power delivery was very smooth and predictable. Very linear. The 09 is back to being violent, as it should be. Clearly, Suzuki realized the error of their ways and gave us back a heavy hitter in the new generation GSX-R1000 I want a Japanese liter bike to scare the shit out of me. That's part of the charm for me. I'm not dumping on the 07/08. It was a fine bike and probably more "rideable" than the 1000 has ever been. It's just wasn't what I want from a liter bike.

If you go with the 2007, make sure it has all the recalls done to it. I think there was only 2, well I had 2 done. The stator and the idle control valve. Fun bike imo. Was my 1st liter bike so I can't compare to any other.

How many miles does it have and how much are you trying to spend.
Mine only has 2400 miles and it has been rubbed with a diaper since production. Also has the Akro exhaust.

    Re: 2007 GSXR 1000

    ok, ok, ok, ok...

So, what's the difference in the engines built for the GSX-R big-block, and the 1200 Bandits prior to the Bandit going to the liquid-cooled 1250 in 2007? Did they pluck the GSX-R motor and drop it into the Bandit up until 2007, or what? And, is the 1250 liquid cooled engine faster than the air-cooled Bandit before it? Is the Bandit's new liquid cooled 1250 the same engine that powers the GSX-r of today?

I don't imagine they plucked the engine. The gixxers are only 1000's, so I would guess the bandit engine is based off of the gixxer 1k mill, even though it's 200cc's bigger I imagine it isn't nearly as jacked out. I bet it makes good tq numbers though. I know the can-o-tunas got gixxer engines to, the older style of air / oil cooled engines at least.

As for the 2007 gixxer 1k, it's my first litre bike as well. I've ridden an 03 gixxer 1k and the 07 stomps the piss out of it, power, handling, etc. I don't have the luxury of riding the aggressive mean 05/06 and 09. Now I want to though.

Anyhow make sure the recalls were done. Stator and ISC. If it's completely stock you can drop a lot of weight with a single slipon. Dropping a tooth on the front sprocket wakes it up nicely. A 190/55 tire alone is a nice improvement over the oem size of 190/50.

One con is the OEM radial master on the front. It feels like a sponge and it's the biggest complain I've seen about the bike (minus the stuff from the 05/06 guys). I added a set of Spiegler stainless lines and that helped a lot.

The other big con is the computer controlled OEM damper should be removed and shot with a rifle of your choice and replaced. I've had 5 tank slappers this year alone, but then again every year the roads just get worse and worse up here. If you will be on rough roads, buy a new damper.

Overall I love the thing. Every time I get on it it amazes me and gives me numerous ear to ear grins. If it has stainless lines on it already and an after market damper, I think you'll be quite happy. The riding position of the gixxers is pretty aggressive, but the 07 pegs are adjustable. Not sure if the older ones are or not. As others said, the power curve is pretty smooth. Under 8k its a big baby, above 8k it's a fire breather...hang onto it. It seems to be quite content cruising around 5-6k. From there snap the throttle and you'll be at arrest me speeds before you can blink, it pulls like a mf'er without down shifting.

    Any other questions ask away

    Re: 2007 GSXR 1000

Bandit was a derivation of the old, oil cooled, GSX-R1100 motor. It shares nothing with the 01 and up GSXR1000. The "new" Bandit got a motor all it's own.

Took me so long to get back and check - awesome post Noell thank you. The fact that it's so linear is good for me, for sure. lol
