Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
man sometimes it feels like you have ridden or owned every bike!
I also saw a 8,100 mile gs500e for $1,800
1995 SUZUKI GS500E - motorcycles/scooters - by owner - vehicle automotive bike sale
https://images.craigslist.org/01010_...p_1200x900.jpg
wonder if they'd take $1,200 for it
nice and ugly, basic, 'nuf hp for freeway commuting
just needs a top case for jacket/knee guards and lock my helmet with a bicycle u-lock
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
I'm sad to admit I've actually ridden far fewer models of bike than I'd have hoped to by now. Need more variety, don't wanna spend to do it.
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Same!
I am trying to switch street bikes every year to every couple years
But man, the GS does not review well in this forum
Why all the hate on the Suzuki GS500? - Bike Chat Forums
But on Advrider it’s as expected...tops out at 90-95ish...carbureted old tech, 80’s engine design, but relatively low maintenance and good gas mileage
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Well, it's an easy bike to hate on when you compare it against similar bikes in the age/price bracket. It doesn't do anything amazing in any way to make it stand out, and does have some build quality issues / material choice issues that further lower it's curb appeal. Like my Savage, it will get you from point A to point B, but you won't remember the trip after 'cause it was boring.
That particular example screams repaint to me for some reason. Finish just seems... off. Price is high, I'd try $1000.
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
If you are taking that on highway, HOLY SHIT I'd avoid.
EX500 would be far superior. The lack of HP on a GS500 can't be understated. Plus it is made for tiny, tiny people. Even I felt like a giant on it.
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
40hp vs 50hp (GS to EX), I never had an issue with mine on the highway, then again my 23hp CBR250R did highway just fine as well. :D
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
don't waste your money on the gs500. It's a little lawnmower of a bike, and not really in a charming way.
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Came to see it/ride it
I have low standards, but it was flat-everywhere, 80’s lawnmower flat. It was not enough for me on a CA interstate at $1,800...more like an $800 maybe
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
uhm...since it's october, motoquest in long beach posted their winter rates - Vstrom 650 is $65/day again
not having a street bike is driving me insane....a 3 day rental is under $200
should I...grab the bike, ride the snake, angels crest highway, and glendora mountain road in one day? then spend 2 days just touring the desert - mojave, nevada, etc. ?
minimal worries about it exploding like my old bike haha...tires and chain in good shape...hopefully steering head bearings are not rocked out
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Its vacation money... doesn't count
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
uhmmm
let's say I can get a busa for $1,500
exactly how crazy would that be
plus you know, the exact opposite of what I look for in a bike
all I remember is that it's a first gen (99-07), owned by a mechanic (which to me, translates to all the shortcuts to keep it running), and it's an extra bike for him and he doesn't want to deal with the online game...but all the busas on craigslist are $4k and up. I could even run it a few months and move on. But man, I dunno about 173hp in a 580lb chasis
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Don't think it would be crazy at all. It would expose you to a type of bike you haven't had before. They supposedly handle very well for a bike of their heft. Would let you do some longer cruises pretty comfortably. Give it a shot, if it isn't for you then sell it for what you paid and move on.

It looks clean...ugh, I am considering it
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Fuck it. Just do it. When else are you going to have the opportunity to ride a cruise missile?
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
it's $1500, who gives a shit, just buy it already.
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
3 yes’s
Iglu, Kurlon, bubba, Paul and other elders - yay? Or too much?
Desert temps are down and some weeks I am only 33hrs of work...time to tour a bit. Ride til next spring and sell for $3k and use it towards an entirely different bike
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
I've never ridden one, but did get a salesman trying to sell one to me as the ultimate sport tourer, after I came in to ask about a VERY leftover GS500 they had... still never figured out how he got from A to Z on that sales pitch...
What'cha got to loose?
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Sure, why not?
Just do all required maintenance as soon as you get it. Don’t assume it’s right because it was mechanic owned.

Any rear tire should get loose pretty easily, I reckon.
I do not speak from experience though, so yeah...
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
I'd rock that Busa for $1500! Let me know if you pass on it :naughty

IT'S A RENTAL BIKE NOW

well, if I wanted to re-live the experience, it's $85/day
Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916
Just went back to the VStrom theft poll posted in message 1.
Since posting the poll on 9/26/2010, 516 people have voted.
499 report having owned the bike for a year or more with no theft attempt.
5 had one stolen.
3 had attempted theft, unsuccessful.
9 had heard tale of a VStrom theft, not their own.
