Power washed the bike, bla bla bla bla, now the FI light is on.

That's all I read, and that's all you should read too, Bhavesh. I'm betting your issue is something related to the above sentence.

Suzi's have very sh*ty connectors easy to corrode

    Dy bike expose to heater
unplug plug unplug every connector , clean if you see deposits, spray with dielectric grease

    Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916

the FI light is intermittent...unfortunately strom troopers recommends that you address intermittent right away...I will have to dig up the extra key and bring a jumper so I can read the code in dealer mode. Bike will stay parked today for the Yamabond to cure

I took the stator cover off for the hundredth time...luckily the new gasket I put on did not stick/tear apart upon removal after 1 day of riding. I cleaned everything up and inspected the grommet where the stator wiring goes through and did notice it was a little loose in the stator cover. It didn't take much wiggling to make a small gap around the grommet; so to cover all my bases, I put yamabond between the grommet and the stator cover; re-installed it the grommet, smeared Yamabond around the border of the grommet, placed another bead where it contacts the gasket, then put yamabond on the whole gasket before re-assembling everything.

It takes 24 hours to cure properly...so here comes the waiting game before testing...

Was looking at the microfiche for the front wheel - I need an oil seal before I can do the wheel bearings

oh well...I needed a bunch of fasteners and bar end/handguard parts anyways...

Need to sort these issues before I do any real touring...what a bummer to buy a touring bike that I trust only for short distances...I guess that's what happens when you buy a 10 year old mid-mileage (27,000) bike used that will need maintenance as the mileage creeps up. Might be easier to just rent one for a couple days The AT was just over a hundred bucks a day!

Shouldn't the All-Balls kit have all the seals with the bearings?

    They might...

I, of course did not take the advice you have provided over and over... instead I googled it and found from Strom troopers that the bearings are a standard size, and that you can buy it from a local bearing supply store...so that's what I did...at roughly $8/bearing ish. Advantage? Probably none...so here I am without a seal

The All Balls kit, with two bearings and two seals, is $13.06 shipped free on Amazon.

I think the seal alone from 'zuki was $15

    faiiiillllllllllllllll

good news is I haven't seen the FI light on...hopefully it stays that way and I can continue to get maintenance done...fresh tires are begging for some canyons or touring rides...

forks + steering head bearings are what I really want next...bike still has a super slight shimmy in the bars over white painted lines or cracks

still thinking of selling by this summer...nhbubba said variety is the spice of life...so I'm sure I can find another ugly/low-theft ~$2k bike (triumph sprint? suzuki bandit? sv1000?) that can handle a top case which can fit a helmet + jacket...or maybe switch to a meyers manx buggy so I can off-road with it + surf boards on a roof rack

DL1000 have sealed bearing but no separate seals

Unfortunately it is VERY hard to know you have better bearings now a days

I would say that All Balls are probably Chinese but so probably is everything else

    Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916

    front wheel bearings done...rear next

I usually have to run out and buy a tool or two for each service I do...this bike needed a 12mm allen key for the front axle

that's the only thing I bought

did not have a front wheel stand, so I made do with a single hydraulic jack under the left fork leg, while on the kick stand, and handlebar ratcheted to the left. Dangerous? maybe...it worked. Bike sits pretty far over to the left on the stand.

Removed the seal and tapped out the bearings with a punch...to be honest, I could not tell they were damaged.

They did not have any play in them, and they spun (greased up and) freely. As I linked before, that's a GREAT THING. If the bearing was damaged enough that it bent/scored/warped/affected the wheel "dish" it was fitted into, then I'd have to get a new front wheel.

New bearings are a little different - sealed on both sides. Better? worse? I dunno...they fit nice and snug. Hopefully the 2nd seal doesn't tear out and damage the bearing

I had a terrible time trying the freeze/heat/drop in method on the RM125 crank bearings, so I'm always a little uneasy installing them. Froze the new ones, greased all surfaces, used a large socket (finally had the right size laying around!! did not have to buy a spare!) on the outer race and tapped them in a circular pattern in until they were all the way in, and visually even. Had to ratchet the 2nd fork leg to line up with the one under the jack, then got everything back in.

First test ride - tons of traffic

15 mins later, finally got to an open stretch and up past 40 - the whistling/howling is goneeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Real test is on a work day...those are the only days that things *really* go very wrong.

    Tightening everything up right now.

Remember, you can't test bearings without putting them under load. They may look fine, free spin fine, but be shite.

My front axle tool is the head of a 8mm (i think) class 5 bolt that I grip the shank with big vise grip

I think it cost me like $2.50 at local hardware

Vise grip savage but will remove the rear axle nut too if need be

    Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916

I just bought a 12mm allen key w' a 3/8" drive hook up...threw it in my bike's toolkit under the seat

but as usual, Kurlon was right...rode to work today...aaaaand the sound is (different, but) still there

it kind of sounds like a "whirring" sound that's intermittent, but usually above 40mph, but disappears above 80 (indicated). Started off as an intermittent chirping sound, then turned into a whistling, and after the wheel bearing change (that...could I have messed up?) is now more like a jetson's spaceship. I dunno. May just focus on the forks and steering head bearings for now. WOT speed wobble over painted lines at 90-115 indicated is scary

Also - I've been having SO MUCH DARN FUN on new tires, that this happened:

Tires for me are like laptops - don't pay top $$ for the latest/greatest/top tech. Just buy (cheap) new, and buy often. My newest tires are always better than used expensive ones...skinko all the way.

Getting close to 1,000 miles on the new rear in a couple weeks...guessing that leaves me about 2-3 months of fun before they start to square off. So new goal: I'd like to get more miles on the *sides* of the ties before I square it off. Try canyons. Day trip it and spend a day around Palomar. Don't just commute for months.

    Re: 2007 Suzuki Vstrom 650 - breakdirt916

I measured my front axle removal bolt

Surprisingly it is an American 1/2 by 13 bolt available at any hardware

Yes most use 2 nuts against each other and an adjustable wrench, I also carry tire plugging kit and Walmart slime compressor

Used 2 times and everything worked

I buy a new tire plugger refill cords because I worry about them aging, so far (knock on wood) they went in and lasted
    the life of the tire

    ^^ all of the above

going to need all that when I start touring with it...also thinking of a battery jumper pack

    so this pic just surfaced

10 years with her...such a lovely machine...life was (and is still) good...not sure I'd own an inline 4 sport bike again though
