    Who has a 2008-2010 CBR1000RR?

Ok guys, I'm looking to pick up a 2008 or newer 1000rr within the next week or two but all of the talk on 1000rr.net has made me nervous. How many people that have one of these bikes have actually experienced the issue? What was your build date if it did/does consume oil? Has anyone actually been able to prove that midway through 2008 the ring issue was fixed? And last, if it is or was consuming oil, how willing was honda to fix it for you?
    Thanks,
    Justin

Had 2 '08s. Neither one were oil burners. Awesome, powerful and light.

if you are buying from a delaer..get the extended warranty........oil burning on this model does exist but to a minority.....the forum tends to concentrate on the issue and make it sound like all of them have it.....there was a poll done on the 1000rr.net and you should see how many owners do not have this issue...i dont have a problem with mine....go to a Honda dealer that knows of the issue and not pretend to you that it does not exists, so when you go for warranty work, they have experience in dealing with it.

It was only certain 2008 bikes that had the oil burning issue.

Your first problem is reading 1000rr.net. That site pretty much sucks when trying to find useful information.

That being said, I'm pretty sure it was only certain bikes and not every single one. When you're looking, check to see what services have been done on the bike. If its had warranty work done on the motor, you probably don't have anything to worry about.

thanks for all the responses... I agree with everyone that 1000rr.net is more or less useless for reliable info which is why I'm asking here. Im going to look at one tomorrow thats got 1400 miles on it and is under extended warranty for 4 more years. As far as buying a new one is concerned, I went to Naults in Manchester, NH and they wanted $10,550 OTD for a new 2009 or 11,550 with the extended warranty. At this point, I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on a bike thats already 2 years old.

my good friend has an 08 1000rr. There was a clutch problem recall. The first person who did the work forgot to ad a pin or clip from old parts to new one and it caused slipping untill it was done again the right way.

    Re: Who has a 2008-2010 CBR1000RR?

I've got an '08, made in 01/08, bought Oct '09. The market was stone cold dead then and they were giving them away. I haven't experienced any oil burning yet, but it only has a couple thousand miles on it, almost all of them at the track. The problem is supposed to get worse as the miles go up. From what I've read, Honda has been decent about fixing the problem, but no so great at admitting it is a problem.

Honda just extended the warranty to 5 years for the crankshaft, because of an 'abnormal crankshaft primary drive-gear noise'. The extension is just for the crankshaft.

The CBR1000RR is light, powerful, and incredibly fun to ride. I like mine a lot, so I'd agree with the others who said to get the extended warranty and enjoy the bike.

yeah, I got that in the mail couple weeks ago, but no longer owner of that bike, so I didn't even bother reading to the end, the way they describe the noise I'm pretty sure everyone is gonna make a trip to the dealer only to have the service manager tell them that their bike sounds normal, just like with the smoke test "I don't see any smoke, do you?"

I had the 2008 CBR100R and the sucker drank oil like you wouldn't believe.

Cost around $3,000 to fix and thankfully I bought the extended warranty and they covered it.

I would be VERY careful before you purchase the bike to ensure it doesn't burn oil.
