    Re: 2009 R1

The new R1 is one of the thirstiest liter bike out there. I think the only worse offender is the new Aprilia RSV4. GSX1000 have been the most economical (all relative)...at least you got a good exercise!

I usually get 45 to 47 on my 9R, this time of year. Manual says it has a 5 gallon tank, but I put 5.3 gallons in there one time and routinely put 5 in it. I usually go 220 to 235 miles between fillups.

    Re: 2009 R1

Up until this, my best was 34mpg, didn't ever seem to matter how i rode it. I was surprised when i first got the bike because the 06 R1 I sold used to get 44-45 all the time.

I think the light came on about 150 miles, I knew I needed fuel and was heading to the station. The first time it stalled I was about 3 miles away. Came to a stop, turned the key off, then back on and it started. Lucky this worked in most of the uphill sections!
Surprisingly for me, I had on full gear so I was warm to say the least.
Lesson learned I guess, less gear on a warm day won't make the push so bad

I consistently get 25-29MPG on my R6. Never really seen more than that. Gas light comes on at 100mi or less.

OMG how is that you getting that low of the gas mileage on the R6? I was getting at least 41MPG ave. on the R6 when I had it.
But now I'm only getting less then 30MPG on the R1.

    Re: 2009 R1

geez! 2 miles? how much weight did you lose in sweat? at least you got one hell of a workout

I've also run out before...I only had to push it a few hundred yards to get off the highway exit ramp...then walked to the nearest gas station, bought a mini gas can and walked back to fill up the bike. But Drenched in sweat and wreaking of gas does not fare well at a work meeting though

[captain obvious]since then, although I've seen 200+ miles on a single tank of an FZR600, but there's no magic trick to fix this issue...just fill up @ 100-125 miles (and track on on an odometer, not a gas light) regardless and it won't happen again...[/captain obvious]

My C-14 holds 5.7 and gets around mid to upper thirties at best, and in more than one squiddly squirrel-fest, did a shade over 29. Mine's the thirstiest liter-bike, even if it is almost a liter and a half. A real glutton. Except fer havin ta push yer dry bike R7, ya get no sympathy from me. Pushin' hazzta suck.

Don't think it's an option for mine.

Yeah, you wouldn't catch me pushing my bike 2 miles. I'd have to find a way to bring the gas to it.

My 08 R1 gets just less than 30 MPG. As soon as my tripometer gets near 100 mi I start hunting for a watering hole. I've just gotten used to it at this point.

Side note: funny story about walking. I was in Austin, TX this past weekend for a wet down (promotion celebration for those not military). We spent all day Saturday on a party barge, bus dropped us off at the Hilton afterwards where we continued to celebrate. Finally, my buddy and I headed out for our hotel (the Hyatt) and stopped at an IHOP along the way... we found out the next day the closest IHOP to the Hilton is about 4 miles away. Don't remember the walk feeling 4 miles long in flippy floppies and board shorts. God I love Austin!
