I'm into the little hyper I like it, I loved the early concepts about the hyper using a smaller motor/weight. Now if we could just get a 1200cc 2v Aircooled SuperSport, I'd take out a loan....

Re: 2010 Ducati Hypermotard 796 and Strada Aperta

Weird. The 1100cc Hypermotard isn't really that hard to ride as it is. Most fun streetbike I've ever ridden, want one BAD.

The 1098 motor in a street 'adventure' style bike seems like a odd choice as well. WTF? A much better use of Ducati's time would be putting the 1100 2V motor in a superbike chassis. Now that'd be a fun bike.

Was the 900 Monster a dumbed down Duc? Was the 900ss a dumbed down Duc?

Stock entry level models sold only so the masses can "afford" one.

Yea because Ducati probably wanted to stick to the 5,000 units sold PER YEAR business model that they'd used up until recently. That's always good for growth.

I know what you're saying but to me I can't stand the crowd who buys the base model simply becuase it is a Duc, not becuause it's a fine piece of engineering mastery made to corner.

Like today.. sitting at Sonic eating a burger some jackass walks up asking about my Husky and then proceeds to tell me he's going to buy the new 949.. you mean that 848.. yeah that one or whatever it is in the spring.. like his broke nissan maxima driving ass can afford that.

The smaller ducs are a lot of fun. I kept my M750 for 8 years. It was essentially almost a street tard before the category existed. They even motard raced them all over europe. I think americans tried to make it something it was not. roadracing/trackdays etc.

So it's better that they priced themselves out of reach for a lot of enthusiats too? It's a 2 way street. There will always be retards buying stuff we like. Lambo comes to mind. A lot of the people that buy those can't drive worth shit.

Retards can be rich, can be poor, can be smart and can be dumb.

    I think it,s a great move.
A smaller less expensive Hyper will make this model more atractive to many.

That's cool... nice to see a smaller more affordable hyper.

I would love a hyper for a street ride if I could get a good deal on one...

Air cooled is one of the main reasons I bought my KTM instead. Well that an 3500 price difference.

I've got both and they run in the same % of temp range for similar conditions, if anything the KTM gets hotter quicker in slower conditions, of course I've never spent time sitting around in city traffic on either. Plus on a naked bike the air cooled looks so much cleaner .

I think the smaller Hyper could be a hit if they can cut the weight, maybe use the new engine case technology that chopped 11lbs off the Monster 1100 engine VS the Hyper 1100, get it around 330lbs dry with another 12-14 lbs to lose with an exhaust/cat upgrade.

And thats 98% of the riding I do.
I rode with Keith once, and sitting in like 3 traffic lights his was already starting to warm up considerably, mine was still doing fine.

Current air cooled Ducs seem almost OVER cooled by the oil cooler Duc puts on them. Lots of the time you can't get the bike up to ideal temp if you're actually moving.

Keiths Hypermotard was probably the most fun I have ever had on a street motorcycle.

That aircooled two valve motor is sweet. It's simple and doesn't have a ton of shit cluttering it up (radiator, hoses, you know) which is great for the range of open/naked bikes Ducati puts it in. It's also one of the most fun motors I've ridden, even on the track. Just makes power in a fun way and sounds awesome with a set of pipes on it.
