It sounds and looks cool. I wouldn't mind one, probably would test ride one if I was rich.
I think I will just compromise and put the quiet pipes back on my Harley, been meaning to do that for a couple years anyway; it's free, and it's close enough to rolling couch ecstasy, especially since it's not my only bike. I'd gladly ride the Road King around the continent for a couple months tomorrow (or next spring), if I had the time and money.
Would the gold wing be better for that? Almost certainly, but either way would be fun as hell so it's not 30K more fun to me.
Btw Joe, I wouldn't hold my breath for these to be available used for 10k...Maybe the late model gold wings this will make obsoletish to the latest and greatest crowd, though
I was talking about the star motorcycle: no way that thing holds it value. since everyone has a hard on for H-D
In person I found the star tourer underwhelming. Lots of cheap plastic. Both hd and the wing spank it in fit and finish by a mile.
It's disappointing that metric cruisers still come with that same boring ugly controls and "plastic where there should be metal" the same as they did for the last 20 years.
I put about 250 miles on an ultra classic a few weeks ago and I can honestly see why some people are "hd or nothing else" in the cruiser market.
Indian. Polaris/Victory. ALL the metrics. They all do it. Lots of cheap plastic. Each button or control looks like it was sourced from a different supplier than the last. Some controls easy to work with gloves.. some not. Lots of overdone colored LED bling; reminds me of a Jensen stereo you'd buy at a department store in the 90's.
I keep telling people I think Harley has this nailed.
Honda with the wing too.
Yami does it with some of their bikes. Cannot figure out why they can't do it with the star lineup too.
I was thinking of a K1600 when I retire, but this new Wing is interesting. A few of us were talking Wings the other day and I said I wasn’t sure I’d want it if I only had one bike. I might be wrong there.
I have to admit I'm conflicted about this.
I owned an F6b and really liked it and the new model is better.
I traded the F6b for the VFR1200x and while it is great, it is tall and I'm a 95% pavement, full day / multi day tour type and the wing is better suited for all of this.
I'm also a geezer and the 2000 VFR I picked up cheap this summer fills the need to hoon around for an hour or two quite nicely.
So, in all respect I should be lined up for a new wing.
But I'm actually looking at ST1300's. I owned two before I started longer rides but now they seem like a perfect choice for what I do at a fraction of the cost of a Wing and without a lot of tech I don't really need.
It's nice to have such first world problems

Cycleworld just posted an article of the bike's trick front end, not sure how much of it is marketing fluff, but this feature really seem like a good enough of a reason to justify it especially on a bike with such a big engine.
[source] 2018 Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Without Telescopic Fork | Cycle WorldBecause the A-arm suspension allows mainly vertical movement of the front wheel, rather than the diagonal up-and-to-the-rear movement of a telefork, it has made possible moving the engine forward, allowing rider position to move ahead 36mm.
It's been a long time since I looked at a street bike and thought "I think I would enjoy that." I like this Gold Wing.
I have not ever ridden a bike with a DCT, but plenty of cars with them. Assuming the car experience roughly transfers over, I'd definitely get the DCT. On a bike like the gold wing, I wouldn't be concerned with 'soulful connection with machine' and the DCT probably makes the riding experience more pleasurable and lowers stress. $28k for a bike like that for the target market (older man/woman/couple with plenty of leisure time on their hands means they have made their money already, and they can afford nice things) is not bad at all.
I am surprisingly attracted to this bike...

Seems like the DCT on the bike is no different than on my car. It's an automatic when I want it to be, and a clutchless standard with auto blipping when I want to shift.
Having said that... I don't know which way I would go. If I was not in traffic a lot, then I'd probably still get the clutch. However, to get the airbag, you need to go to the DCT.... and having the airbag would be nice.
I've ridden the 2010 VFR1200 with DCT. It was better in sport than normal mode, but the manual option was also easy to use.
For a big tourer with lots of torque and any commuting duty with traffic, I'd go for a DCT in a heartbeat, but if i didn't have it I'm not sure I'd miss it often.
Some damned good marketing. Hell, even I want one.
of course you want one. although today has me thinking I should get the 790adv first (for my 40th), and save the wing for when I retire. (in 16yrs, 9mos).
because goals.

Cool vids. But the speedometer only goes up to 130??
The speedo on GLs is notoriously off. That said, most report a top speed for the previous generation to be somewhere between 130 and 140.
It runs out of power to push that much wind at the top.
Save you $ and just get yourself a ST1300. And the 790A

Gino,
I've seen you twice coming south ffom NH 2-up, so it looks like you're loving to ST1300. Your suggestion is one I've been thinking about a lot.
A few not previously discussed details.
Nothing "ground breaking". Just details.
That dealership has a bunch of videos up that look like some sort of sales training bits, each pretty interesting to geeks like me. I think I've watched all of them at this point.
Engine and transmission
Electronic goodies
Me too.
