    2nd Gen SV650 Subframes

Hoping someone can help me out. Did some digging about a sub frame for a second gen sv, and it looks the last time this was discussed was in 2008. In a post a long time ago someone mentioned Chris at Endurance Engineering. Do you know if he still manufactures sub frames? If not does anyone have any recommendations? I want something that will fit a gsxr 600 race tail fairing.

I really like the sub frame from JHS, but its is a fortune.

AMS makes a light weight carbon fiber tail also expensive

Really looking for something like in the attached image, which may very well be custom.

Any info or personal product reviews would be great.

    Thanks.

    Re: 2nd Gen SV650 Subframes

FWIW I fit a 2003-2004 gsxr Superbike tail on my stock subframe. No hacking required. YMMV. So the question is what year tail are you trying to fit? What are you looking to spend? Custom Subframes are expensive.

Looks like I should start selling these things.
As my man said. They aren't cheap. $300ish.

I have a few interested already. Maybe it's time to build some weld jigs and make some subs.

Reminds me. I want to talk to you about design. Got some cool ideas looking at another bike.

    Re: 2nd Gen SV650 Subframes

I have looked at RR Racing and the lines just seem to mimic the stock sub frame, if i'm spending the money i want it to be both light weight and aesthetically pleasing, (these things bother me). That being said i am looking to fit it to a 08 sv and it seems like I'm going to spend somewhere between 250 and 300. But maybe i just fit the 05 gsxr bodywork over the stock sub frame and save myself some money.

    Re: 2nd Gen SV650 Subframes

I'm currently in the process of fitting 04/05 gsxr race bodywork to my 2nd gen SV. First of all, it sucks. Nothing fits right. In hindsight, I would have just gone with SV bodywork again. My plan is to spend a couple more hours on it and then I may just cut my losses and start over.

Anyway, I haven't spent much time on the tail section yet, but I think it will actually be the easiest piece to fit. I think everything on the subframe needs to be cleaned up a little bit and the plastic might have to be trimmed a little for clearance but that should be it. The guide I looked at it recommends making a couple custom brackets for support. I'm hoping to get back to it either this weekend or next and i'll check back in with an update. If I can't get the tail to fit at all, I may go the path of a custom subframe.....or sv bodywork.

My race bodywork (same gen GSXR as yours) never fit properly either. Then I went with Daytona 675r (06-08) and it fit like a glove. Minor fabrication for two side brackets, minimal cutting for the exhaust. What did require effort (Rada can attest to) is the subframe. I'm sure I could have hacked up my stock subframe and made it fit but we don't roll like that.

I've heard that about the daytona bodywork. I may go that route if I can't get the gsxr stuff to fit right and then maybe just stick with an SV tail if modding the subframe is going to be a pain in the ass.

Maybe a dumb question, but when you do the mods with Daytona bodywork do you keep the stock seat? If i go this route and spend all the time and money I'm really looking to have a true race tail and seat and ditch the stock seat. It seems like unless i want to spend the money for JHS parts it is a custom job?

I don't have a stock seat. I went with a 09-12 Daytona 675r SuperBike tail (so it only has the foam).

You're correct, unless you go JHS, it's a custom job. I don't know if you race, but if you're at the classic in June (which you should definitely go to nonetheless), swing by garage Center 1 and check mine out. The guy that made my subframe will conveniently be next door.

You will also need an upper stay. This is what i used. Fairing Bracket - Suzuki SV650. 99-02 & 03-08. possible fit 09-12

This was lou's build using Chris's Endurance Engineering subframe and an 06 r6 SB AB tail.

Yes I will be there on Thursday with Penguin, and will come back for the weekend. I will definitely stop by and take a look.

So I'm under the assumption Chris does not make these anymore? Simple and nice, exactly what i am looking for.

Also leaning towards this option... I'm not just fond of the idea of ponying up for a custom subframe.

Hm. I wonder how the daytona bodywork would look with a gsxr tail....

    Meh, I don't think I'd like it.

Steal Bills tail and mount it on my subframe.

    Re: 2nd Gen SV650 Subframes

I have 06/07 GSXR 600 bodywork on my 2007. Install was very easy with expected trimming here and there and an aftermarket front subframe but was unable to get a GSXR tail over the OEM rear subframe so I stuck with the 2nd gen SV that I bought from Armorbodies. I do have a GSXR sbk tail and draft panel that I tried but can't get to work. If you are looking for a cheap option to try let me know.

Draft panel is the finishing piece that closes the tail off under the subframe instead of leaving it open to the elements, tire sling, etc.

Straight up ignorance here... What's the point of the custom tails over the stock setup? Aerodynamics? Weight savings? Sexehness?

I just call this the undertail

What's custom is the subframe... which we need to fit other bike's tail. Strickly sexehness. That and the SV race bike tail is UGLY.
