    2up bike suggestions

So next season ill be looking to pick up a new bike (used) for some decently comfortable 2up riding. The wifey doesn't like riding on the s1k and I'm not sure I want to go full cruiser just yet. I was thinking along the lines of a sports tourer, something multistradaesc. Looking to spend around 8k, what do you guys think.

    Tiger 800?
    Multi obviously
    Maybe an NT700?

I'd suggest the Versys or something of that sort, but 650 is kinda small for a 2 up focus and most in that category are in that displacement. You could probably get a Sprint, K series BMW or ST in that price range if you want a more traditional sport tourer as well.

Yeah I like the tiger and fjr. The fjr looks like it has a little more wind protection.

I have an 09 fjr. You are welcome to meet up sometime and take it for a spin to see if that is what you want. I am selling it come spring though.

My wife and I both enjoyed my Ducati ST3, your budget should net you a well setup one with low miles.

Ugh.. Everything I've heard about the NT700v says it makes no more power and is no better suited fro 2-up usage than any of the 650's. I know it says 700 on the side, but its actually only a 680cc engine.

I shopped the 700v before buying my V-Strom. Even the Honda salesmen couldn't seriously pitch the 700v. I believe it sucks and the Versys is better.

But I don't think either is appropriate for full-time 2-up use.

    Liter plus or don't bother.

    FJR, C14, 'Wing, R1150/1200RT/GS, V-Strom 1k, maybe a Tiger 1050, etc..

    Re: 2up bike suggestions

Last year I spent 10 days, including a couple of high mileage days, 2-up with luggage on a GS and wife liked it so much she wants me to buy one. Fully loaded in a wide range of elevation, from autobahn to endless switchbacks, the bike was flawless and a blast to ride. But we might like the Triumph or other bikes just as much if we tried them (and we will).

I'd recommend going over to Second Wind and taking a few bikes for a ride 2 up and see what appeals to the both of you. They have a 'wish list' that they'll use to contact you about if they take something you're looking for as a trade-in.

If you don't want one, don't put here on (or near) a Goldwing.

R1100RT or R1150RT gets my vote. I absolutely love my '96 BMW R1100RT with hard cases & top box that has back rest for passenger. Should easily be able to find one for $6,000 or so. Big twin is a bit lighter than 4-cylinder & a pleasure to ride solo or two-up.

Concours 1400 ABS. One of the more recent magazines had an adventure shoot out and had two couples that gave 2up opinions, I forget which one it was but one the passenger really didn't like... I want to say it was the Multi.. but I can't recall.

The Connie is a great bike for 2 up. It's also a huge tanker weight wise. I,m 6 ft even and the 14 had me just being able to flat foot it. You get some sketchy traction under foot and a slight incline or road camber at a stop you had better pay attention cause she's a big girl. It made me nervous enough after a bit that I sold her and bought the Multi 1200. 200 lbs lighter and easier to manage. . Of course my wife hates the Duc but that's another story.

Press the wife on FULL interrogation and you may discover she just plain doesn't like
riding on the back of a motorcycle

Boredom, terror, dirt, bugs, discomfort, isolation there is really not a lot going for it

    Re: 2up bike suggestions

For $8k you will have lots of choices. How much of a SPORTStourer do you want? Triumph ST 2009/10, Honda VFR 2006-2009, Ducati ST3 2005-2007, 2008+ F800ST would be my picks if you favor the sports quotient. All are cable of two up and would be great with a rear trunk (I have a Vfr and wife often on the back)

I rented a R1200GS and agree it is a great two up bike, but good luck finding one for $8k. While their handling is great, the sports part is lacking.

Another good bike is a 2011 Suzuki GSX1250F for two up and $8k

Lots of decent choices assuming you wife is normal size

    Re: 2up bike suggestions

I would say about 60% sport and 40% touring. I think most of the bikes posted pretty much fit the bill. Im going to really talk with her and see where she wants to go. I think the furthest we will go is just the new england area no long trips down the coast or heading out west. More than likely NH/VT/ME day trips or weekend long overnight trips.
