650 CC V twin bike, Massachusetts insurance. What do you pay?

People on 650 V twins In Mass. You know who you are.

I'll be registering my 20 year old Hawk soon and the quote I got does not seem right. I'm going to take the 929 off the road and do some piece of my mind 30,000 maintenance.

In a nutshell the 929 is:
    9 years old
Valued at $11,500 (I know I could put this a lot lower)
    929cc's (900 class)
The years worth of insurance is $315 Not too bad in my mind.

I want to transfer the plate to the Hawk and the same coverage with the exception of:
    Obviously the bike
    Bike valued at $3,000

They are quoting me $303 for the year. WTF a $12 savings on a 20 year old bike, non sportbike status, with only 650cc's. What happened to the differing classes (600, 750, 900) bringing you into a different tiers of costs? I could drop some medical coverage’s and get it to $228 but I am still hung up on the $13 savings that I would be getting if I stayed with the same coverage.

I'm currently with Liberty Mutual for the House, cars and bike for that supposed discount.

    Thoughts?
What are you paying for the year?
    Who are you going thru?

I'm paying 350ish for my 08 Versys, and I was paying slightly less for my SV. That was with Plymouth Rock and Safety.

The whole insurance game is just hooky, but that being said I would suggest you compare side to side all the parts on your insurance quote to see where the changes are happening. Typically some parts will not change at all based upon the bike, because they are rider related.

Also an FYI ask the insurance company what they are valuing your bike at if they were to total it out. This will let you know how much to cover it for. In other words if you were to total out the bike and they will only pay you 9Kwhy insure it and pay premium for 12K. They are OK with taking the premium for the 12K, but will never pay that out, complete BS.

Re: 650 CC V twin bike, Massachusetts insurance. What do you pay?

Something similar happened to me. Last year I paid $380 for full coverage on my 2003 sv650s. Over the winter I swapped it for a 2003 sv1000s. I go back to the same insurance company (an agent with commerce) and I get quoted and billed for $350 ... just weird. btw, I'm 22, have had my motorcycle permit/license since June 07, never been in an accident, and only have had 1 speeding ticket for a 47 in a 35 back in October '06. I bought both bikes for $3500 (i know a steal for sv1000s ). I actually have my sv1000s value claimed at $5000 due to all the mods i put on immediately (gsxr wheels, full exhaust, gsxr front end, etc.)

mine was ~430/yr with full coverage with my brandy new 07 SV650S with fairings

(i think i have a speeding ticket and possibly a random passing-people-to-make-a-right-at-a-red-light "passing within lane" moving violation on my insurance)

HOly crap. I'm paying 750 for my 650 single. Maybe they understand the "hooligan" status.

Re: 650 CC V twin bike, Massachusetts insurance. What do you pay?

I have a perfect record. No speeding tickets and no fault accidents. So I know that I have no penalties against me.

The personal payouts are what seem to be driving everything up. I guess people are expensive. It seems that they don't care what bike you are on anymore.

I remember paying $105 a year for basic coverage on my 94 ZX600. I thought that was a steal.

Re: 650 CC V twin bike, Massachusetts insurance. What do you pay?

its funny too because the insurance industry is not only based on statistics, but it is based personally aswell. An example would be 30% of people put in claims for their Autos (this includes bikes), the other 70% of people do not put in claims however they are subject to the change in rating as well because of those people putting in claims. Also most insurance companies take into consideration credit, driving records, the risk of where you live also what you drive while rating.

So in a nutshell people need to not be stupid and put claims in for rediculous things. I reccomend to shop around man. See what other companies offer for the same coverage. PM me and let me know I can find a State farm agent in your area that will set you up with quotes.

I'm paying $400+ for coverage on the '86 Elefant, a Ducati 650 v-twin, with Arbella (who tends to be high). I had it appraised for over $9k after I restored it and did all the SuMo conversions. Without the appraisal it'd be worth about $5 to an insurance provider BTW - Its registered in DT Boston.

I know that bike. I would appraise it for that high if not higher.

Re: 650 CC V twin bike, Massachusetts insurance. What do you pay?

I have my full papers with me today as insurance just messed up and switched the assigned drivers by puting my wife as the driver of the bike and the STI and me on the legacy since she has a worse step rating - trying to fix this.

So the breakdown was 07 650R, Arlington.
    Compulsory - $65
    Collision - $112 ($500 deductable)
    Comprehensive - $42
    Medical payments - $120 (5K)
    Optional Body etc - $63 (250/500K)

Those numbers are with a step rating of 03, with my normal 99 they are a fair bit less.
