I rode the 701 around the pits. I had a 690SMC for 5 years. I can say that the new more is FAR more powerful and torquey than the original. Bike also feels more nimble somehow. Must be revised suspension settings.

Extra counter balancer(s) helping negate some gyro effects, maybe?

Biggest thing that needs to be done during break in is to get the rings to seat up against the cylinder walls.
I'm totally with you on that. I was mainly just curious because most companies say to stay under a certain RPM which is pretty tough to do without a tach. I wanted to see what it was like to stay within the RPM limits on the Z125 and it was just too funny. That tiny thing is near impossible to keep from bouncing off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd.

I'm not sure it's something so scientific. Probably just better forks/setup. lol

Rick Breen has an assortment of the R&G sliders on his bike and I was thinking about buying the factory rear sliders and the fork leg protectors for mine. A couple of options for you either way.

FYI the stock plastic skid plate from the 701 Enduro/690 Enduro will bolt right up to the 701 SM. I had it installed before I picked up the bike to double as a catch pan.

Can you use a lift stand with that skid plate?

I don't think I would try to use a standard dirtbike lift stand with the plastic skid plate. They do have an aluminum one that may support the weight of the bike on a lift stand. If I get to the point I want to use warmers with this bike I'll most likely install the swingarm spools and use standard front and rear stands.

    Ugh..

Wish these things were available. Seems the 701 SM is not coming to the US as an '18 model and '17 models are 110% sold out. Enduros are easy to find though..

..So are 690 Dukes. What's the downside of a MY16+ Duke 690 vs the 701 SM? Both sit on 17's.. both have similar brakes.. same counterbalanced motor everyone swears is super smooth.. duke saves a pile of $ off the showroom floor and has some nifty bits in the powersports catalog available, namely a "track pack" which adds some cool TC options.

Half considering giving up most of my street riding, selling off my SV and DL and replacing with one quiet, low maint runabout that is track-day worthy.

    Re: 690 vs 701 Supermoto

The Duke 690 is far superior for said purposes. The seating position is awesome for runabout riding, and the motor is stonking fun.

The only downside to the duke is the cheaper suspension. If not racing it or fulltime tracking it, it is the go. I think it looks a hella lot nicer too.

For track, maybe do the research about suspension upgrades and factor those in.

The 701 comes with meh suspension too. So I wouldn't say suspension is that much different between them. I haven't rode the Duke to compare though.

The difference is the 701 has suspension that can be worked. The Duke suspension has no adjusters and is essentially a throw away. That is the main reason I didn't buy one to replace my 690SMC.

The sv has basic suspension too, and can be made quite lovely.

I see that chapter of my life closing pretty securely for a few years now. Which after much soul searching, I'm actually okay with.
Truth told I'm on the brink on a 1290 SA. That bike is fantastic. Just don't see myself using it enough. And $17k+/- for something that sits in the garage is just stoopid.

I'm also having terrible thoughts of picking up a leftover YZ250F and throwing my supermoto bits at it, trying to revitalize my attempts at being a contendah at Boxshop.
WR450 would be sold off to displace. WR is more of a handful for that app than I expected.

    Who knows..

Looks pretty bleak. No race-tech support at all. Can't get a read on k-tech.. has anyone ever asked PK about this?

Of course, they say the same about my hyper suspension, and it is more than good enough for me. Makes me wonder WTF they are going on about. I am a flyweight though. YMMV.

I have nothing to add except it was nice to see a bemused option in the poll choices. Only to be outdone by a "Beet is naked" option.

What was meh about the suspension Mr Smuttster? Admittedly the thing isn't sprung anywhere near right for me and I haven't touched a clicker on it all. Just curious what you thought was so bad?

The WP fully adjustable stuff is good. KTM/Husky come up with some weird settings for their stock bikes, but You can make them excellent.
