How bad is the existing tank, might be savable with a lining if the paint is still good?

-a2c3105f-b515-40ec-a4cf-8bcbabe11525Well, the outside of the tank looks beautiful but I took the tank off and can hear chunky stuff sloshing around with 40 year old gas. I don’t have a key to open the cap so I’m going to take it to a locksmith to open. Then I will see what’s doin in there but I’m guessing it’s pretty bad.

Send it to http://gastanklining.com/ and they'll be able to clean and seal it without wrecking the paint.

I'd bet you a fair amount of money that you can open that with a flathead screwdriver

Those old tank locks are so bad they can be DIY picked with a $10 lockpicking set.

You mean by prying? Or by putting the screw driver in key slot?

I’m glad I didn’t bet because it worked. It took a while but I finally got the cap off. Just as I expected, it SUPER rusty inside …..

Yeah sorry, hopefully you didn't pry it. Most of my old tanks open super easily with a twist of a flathead in the key slot.
