    What does a 97 CBR900RR go for?

I have been looking to trade my SV650 for a dual sport and have had an ad up on CL. Well I've got a few serious trade offers and I thought I had it narrowed down to two differant DRZ400s.
One is an 01 w/3784 miles, stock, witha dent in the tank + $500-800 depending on his inspection of my SV
The other is an 00 DRZ400 w/ 9K miles, brand new acerbis plastics/cyclops headlight, HMF exhaust, rejetted and the 3x3 mod(opens up airbox)

Then the other day I got an offer that I kinda dismissed at first then decided to email the guy back and see what he had to say. He offered a 97 XR400 w/ 10k miles thats got a dual sport kit and is street legal. When I finally emailed the guy back asking if he would throw in cash to even the trade out he replied that he'd be willing to add his 97 CBR900RR. He said he knew he would take a loss $ wise but would rather trade because he was looking to sell both the XR and the CBR to buy an SV or an R6

Assuming all the bikes are in good running order which sounds like the best deal?

    Which would you trade for?

MY mind is swimming in confusion

I'd take the 2 bikes in a heartbeat.

Worst case you flip em and get a better Dual Sport.

Once I got the jet kit for my DRZ I am a happy camper

I fear that any older sportbike is an anchor only da boyz in da hood would want for low cash

900rr Retail KBB $4295 Trade $2945. Sell it to some squid in the spring for $3000 or so.

XR400 Trade is $1400... Ride it or sell it for $1500 or more.

That gets you $4500 and you can find a Nice CRF450x that you can motard and dual sport.

Your SV? year? Worth about $2500-3000. KBB.

Re: What does a 97 CBR900RR go for?

I think i'll go w/ the xr and cbr, I just read a few posts about how maintenance intensive the drz motor is and it usually needs a rebuild as early as 12-15k miles. richw-how many miles on your DRZ? Any repair work?

The XR is old school bomb-proof and practically maintenance free and many owners have seen over 100k miles with little if any engine work needed
and I could like everyine said, i could just sell or trade the CBR for another dirt bike or DS

....then again...I haven't seen 140MPH in a few years, that CBR might just be a little fun

Re: What does a 97 CBR900RR go for?

recommended oil change interval is 1000 miles, the earlier models auto cam chain tensioner is know to fail and destroy the motor and needs replacing, internal nuts and bolts need to be loctited right off the floor becuase they are known to loosen and again destroy the motor and now hearing that 12-15 thousand miles is the average life expectancy of the motor. Sounds pretty high maintenance to me

Do it! Don't even think about it.

You're gonna trade him "most" of an Sv? And get back two complete, running motorcycles? No brainer.

I really have no need to argue this, nor do I care what you actually buy....but

DRZ's are pretty much known to be some of the lowest maintenance bikes around.

Oil change guidelines form the manual are not 1000 miles. They are 3K just like a street bike. I don't know too many dirtbike owners who let the oil go more than a few rides, but for street, 3K. The auto cam chain tensioner is the same one used on tons of models of suzukis, most are fine, and the swap to an MCCT is about 20 bucks and five minutes if you want to do it. The CSS nut should be loctited, although my guess is most DRZ owners don't even know that and many who do have never actually had theirs loose. Same with the primary nut. Most owners who know about it, at least based on the million polls about it on TT, have not done it and have had no issues. 12-15K for the motor is stupidity, plain and simple. Take care of it and it will last forever.

Again, buy what you want, it makes no difference to me, but you have not done very thorough research of the DRZ.
