I use these cam buckle style jobbies with the integrated soft loops and spring loaded gates on the hooks on the front of the bike. I use these on the lift in the shop too.

Two straps from anything solid on the rear subframe back. Any straps will do here, I have some cheapie cam buckles from harbor freight. Sinch the straps with your weight on the bike. Rock solid. On the dirtys I usually hook to the joint where the subframe meets the main frame. On street and track bikes from the passenger pegs or grab handles.

Tighten down a few blocks down the road or at the first gas stop.

Never used canyon dancer straps. They look nice.

I usually do two ratchets up on the bars or forks, leave some slack in compression, and one strap over the bike with just a little pressure. Single ramp with a MX stand. My rear is lifted a bit too so it’s inevitably sketchy and perilous but ultimately works.

Anyone use a winch? Thinking about mounting a winch behind the cab.

Loading with the method you mentioned is too easy to think about a winch imo.

Well, I’m fucking short, so I need the second ramp.

I also require 2 ramps. I cannot step high enough to step into the back of my Silverado. It seems I'm better at shuffling up a ramp than I am at stepping, even with a stand or something to gimmie a boost.

I remain convinced that this man is 7' 2" tall and has a 50" inseam..

Re: Advice on securing sportbike in pickup

Hasn't been mentioned so I will:

Don't crank the front end down so hard that it bottoms. That way lies blown fork seals. Leave enough play so the bike's suspension can do its thing. Don't worry, you can get the straps good and tight with the suspension partially loaded.

FWIW I use these, run through the lower triple so the straps don't rub the bodywork. I prefer the latching hooks to the plain S-hooks most straps have. I also tie down the rear with a strap through the rim, but that's really only because I also have to strap down the ramp, my EZ-up and paddock stands anyway, so the strap is there and handy. It's really not needed.

Loading is done by power-walking (i.e. engine on, in gear, clutch slipping) the bike up the ramp, which is wide enough so that I can walk beside the bike. I'm short, so trying to balance a 400-lb bike with my arms up above my shoulders is NOT happening.

I think someone mentioned it, but DEFINITELY use the safety straps on the ramp to secure it to your truck so that it can't move. I saw a bike fall off a jacked-up pickup at NYST once because the guy was too lazy to do that.

Re: Advice on securing sportbike in pickup

Likelihood of blowing a fork seal directly caused by tying a motorcycle down tightly is almost non-existent. The more likely scenario is that the seal is damaged prior to the bike being strapped down to the point where there is fork oil continuously sitting on the top of the previously damaged seal and therefore leaking. Another more likely scenario is the motorcycle has a dirty fork leg, due to the forks not being compressed to that point for a long period of time or just poorly cleaning the fork legs when washing the bike, and some crud has built up on the slider, even a dead bug carcass can rip a fork seal, so that when it gets tied down the seal passes over the crud and damages the seal causing the leak.

If you have clean fork sliders and seals that are not already damaged in some way, strapping a bike down tightly won't hurt a thing.

Yup...still working out the kinks tho...the steel cable binds up and frays and involves 20 mins of unbinding

There are many examples on YouTube and spends commercial products...I am trying to do it with a $130ish super winch

So I got a rope (?) instead and a roller fairlane...still haven’t tried it. Most of my loading is the dirty in a 2wd truck on stock tires so it’s not necessary to winch. I am prepping it for the 480lb vstrom and possibly a year of track days next year

I have a ready ramp very heavy duty and works as a bed extender. I dont like cannon dancers as they pull on the trothle. I use cycle cynch they are better as they pull straight down. Cycle Cynch
