I like that a lot. Especially the first shot. That's a V-twin, no?

First shot is pretty good looking. Wonder if it is a variant of the Superhawk motor stuffed in an ADV package?

The differences between the two pictures is interesting - front tire and brakes, side radiators, bar height, etc. I wonder where along the paved/dirty road spectrum the finished product will end up. If they make it.

Interesting it has chain drive, like the new DL1000.

Perhaps now that all the 1200cc "Adventure" bikes are $15,000, shaft drive and over 600 lbs, there is room for a 1,000cc 500 lb twin class.

First one looks like a colorful photoshop of the Varadero (which pretty much tanked in sales)

I always thought they were parallel twins. Wiki just set me straight.

I bet a guy your size would like 'em. Good ergos for a big guy, but still handles. Slap sport-touring rubber on it and they are just about as good as any sport touring mount around.

I'd like to point out that the first photo is more than just a paint job. Inverted forks and radial brakes caught my eye.
I'd also like to point out that the Varadero was never offered here in the US, IIRC.
I'd love to see it or this thing offered up. Clearly there is money in this segment.

Maybe they're not as good for any off-road riding, but I like the lower pipes on the DL1000 - high pipes make it tougher to add decent-sized luggage.

Re: New African Twin Maybe 1200cc

I noticed the forks. Also the spoked wheels. It's not just paint, but I still think it looks like a 'shopped version.

They weren't in the US, but could have been had for very short money north of the border. Admittedly Honda pushed it strong initially, but then tried to sell out their inventory befor dropping new model years, which meant dealers were trying to push 3 year old brand new bikes stuck on the showroom floor. It was also very heavy compared to the other bikes in the class.

I was looking at the Caponord at Seacoast the other day. I like that bike a lot, but looking on the AF1 forum, they've had some issues. Why are these bikes getting so complicated??

That does look like my old Superhawk. Wish they had brought it in with FI instead of carbs. Great engine if a bit heavy.

Re: New African Twin Maybe 1200cc

The new Africa Twin is due to be announced at EICMA next week. The current rumors are that there will be two versions, one with a 19" front wheel and pavement focus, the other with a 21" front and serious dirt focus. Speculation seems to be that Honda's intention is to take on KTM (in terms of capability, obviously not outright performance).

But the general buzz on ADVrider is also that given Honda's history over the past 20 years, it'll be surprising if this bike is really as hardcore as the speculation has discussed.

Guess we'll all find out next week.
