Re: New African Twin Maybe 1200cc

There are reports on ADV Rider of some dealers down south giving slight discounts. I've never pre-ordered a motorcycle.. so I have no idea how this normally works.
I haven't got the cash right now even if I wanted to.

I wasn't paying attention to the metric measurements.

We may have crept up there from time to time, but we weren't making a habit of it. Especially on that bonus gravel road we found in the Gaspé interior. We did probably have the speeds elevated a little on the gravel part of 138, just because it was so wide open.

Yes, people are negotiating prices. How much of a discount depends very much on the dealer. I did okay; a few people on ADVrider got unbelievable deals for a bike that's surely going to sell out initially.

    It's like 2 buttons!

I'd much rather stare at some thing that says we're doing 100 instead of 50 while slogging behind a car. The added bonus is I don't have to convert anything in my head and can tell at a glance if we're in "arrest me" territory or not.

Yeah, I had the metric display on my GPS, I just wasn't paying attention to it. :-P

Welp, it ain't happenin'. I've been stowing away cash like a squirrel stashing acorns hopped up on speed. Unfortunately Murphy applied his law. Last night I committed that savings to something more important. (Family first, yo.) Since I'm unwilling to borrow for toys.. no big new touring rig for me in 2016. I'll be a Weestrom pilot for at least another year. I think this is what they call "first world problems".

    Now I'm really effing upset.

I was torn between the possibility of one of these vs. waiting for some future possible version of the GL. I was going to solve that problem by riding yours to see what I thought.

    I'm very disappointed in you.

I get that a lot. Especially from management.
Let's flip the table on this one, you buy one and let me test ride it. I have more bikes than you anyway, you gotta catch up.

Unfortunately getting things through my approval chain has proven to be a challenge...
I'd like to help, but right now it doesn't seem to have the support of upper management

Ha! I love that new truckzilla. It is so choice. But no, I don't classify it as "family". In an ideal world we do not pay for the "starving artist" lifestyle of our kin. But every once and a while you have the opportunity to help someone you care about. Would be a dick move to buy an overpriced toy instead of doing so.

I just can't wait for her to call me a corporate sellout lemming at Thanksgiving again!

Don't kid yourself. There have been much bigger teases on this website.

I'm assuming this all sounds like Greek because I'm not on the social media.
Either way, $ comes, $ goes.

I will state I have zero qualms about financing toys. I'm better at making payments than saving, I suffer from "look, piece of candy" syndrome.

I am on the social media, but I have no idea what Colin's talking about either. I attribute this to the fact that he's too sensible a human being to spread his private business all over a public forum.

    +1 on that.

There's a big difference between running up needless credit card debt and financing a vehicle (even if it is primarily a "toy"). Life is too damn short not to finance that sort of thing.

Re: New African Twin Maybe 1200cc

I'd consider financing a bike/toy if the interest rate made sense and I really did get the added value of it over my current ride.

Unfortunately, I'm still in Colin's shoes, minus the family stuff. I'm in like with my Wee and the added $10k in cash to bump up to one of these just isn't worth it to me.

Exactly. TT-R: Financed until just recently, didn't stop me from having fun on it. KTM: Financed.

There's room for different approaches. I pretty much buy everything with cash, and thus stick to buying things I can actually afford. On the one hand, this is why I literally have no credit rating. OTOH, that's also why I have no debt other than a 10-year mortgage, and thus will be retiring early to enjoy the toys I have been able to afford.

Speaking of which, I will be testriding a MOTUS in about a month, and if I like it enough, I'll start saving specifically for it. That'll give me a couple of years to observe -- to see if the company will last, and if the bike has any significant design flaws.

    Pretty damn close!

Originally bought the bike for my wife and Yamaha was offering crazy low rates so I financed it operating on the theory that if she rides it for two months and hates it, I'll have little out of pocket and can just unload it. Well, things happened...
