Alright. Who is getting the silver AT that has had my A$$ all over it.
bigger than i thought. Reminds me of V-strom and maybe the same size of a Triumph tiger i saw earlier.
I said hi to Chris and was chatting him up. he wished he had one for me to roll around on.
btw it it has that R1 burble at idle to maybe 3K
i played around with the seat but could not figure out how to get it lower. it seemed the catch was limiting the seat from going down. definitely missing something.

Our 1 Africa Twin came and went the same day (was under deposit)
We are allotted three more this season, but because of the earthquake in Japan there are production delays. We won't see the rest of our allotment until August unfortunately.

anyone here take possession of their new Africa Twin yet.
eat me
Well, they're starting to hit the used market.
Two silver DCT models in ADV flea market:
one in OR with 20 miles - Error | Adventure Rider
one in VA with 150 miles - Error | Adventure Rider
People are assholes. Dumb assholes.
But whatever. I'll wait a year, probably longer. Thanks tho.

Funny thing is, the dude in VA selling his AT has been one of the most vocal people in the Africa Twin shipping updates thread on ADVrider -- he got so anxious for a bike that he bought a KTM 1190 Adventure R, didn't much like it, and sold it a few days later. Apparently he has a long history of not holding onto bikes for long.

Having sat on one now I can say I'm impressed so far. It feels super light and seems to carry the weight down low. I love the big push button switch to turn ABS off, that's a nice little detail. This short kid can reach the ground without drama on the thing too.

Yeah. That's a big strike against the 1190 ADV-R for me. It's a tall, tall bike. I'm reminded how much a handful my DL650 is in loose stuff already. The AT I could flat foot easily, at least on the floor of the convention center at the show.
I think I really want one. (Yea, this shit again.)
One more season on the ol' DL. I can wait.
Coworker just brought home a used (08?) "hex head" 1200GS. Good gawd that thing is a porkster! His is not even an adventure model.
He wants me to take it for a "good hard rip" one day. I laughed a little and agreed. If you insist.
Apparently Whitten has bought one...

Thoughts? Dunno about everyone else, but my appetite for first hand experience with this bike is insatiable.
I've been trying to figure out how to score a demo. Honda USA's web info is useless. Seems like its going to be a while before demo rides are available. (If anyone hears otherwise, I'd love to know.)
Moto VT has one. Road trip?

I can if I can outrun him!
I am really enjoying the bike thus far. It really feels light and manageable on the road and around town. Power and electronics are adequate and the price point is attractive. I have only done a few dirt roads thus far so no real feedback about how it performs off road. The rider in the video above would be the one to ask about that; he/she is more experienced than I. I think you would find some similar comparative (as to AT vs MTS/1190/etc.) feedback from the BMW crowd if you asked some riders about the differences between an F800GS and an R1200GS. For me this AT, paired with a sport(ish) bike, is the perfect pair.

I'm actually far more interested in its road and dirt road behavior than real off-road. I am looking to upgrade my street bike and this is my favorite of the current contenders. I have a DRZ for more serious off-roadage.. and then a 200 KTM 2-stroke for actual trail use. I just want a nice comfortable, reasonably powerful, fun street bike. Truth told the VFR1200X would work too.. although I like that less as I vastly prefer simple twins.
Dave Whitten, the maker of those videos, has a netra aa license, so yeah, he's qualified to ride it offroad.
I gotta get ahold of him, I'll pass any Intel along here.

I think it's fun, powerful enough, and has very good on road handling characteristics. The stock Dunlops suck; will probably swap for Pirelli Scorpion when the time comes. I personally believe it's a unique riding experience. If you have ridden a lot of these bikes (ADV touring/dual sports) it really is a fantastic union of the classes. There is an article out there that says this AT is a new class called the "Ultra Dual Sport". I have to agree that the bike is *different*. If I had to come up with something on the spot...from my riding experience I would say it feels like a DRZ, F800GS and DL1000 (previous gen) all had a baby together; if thats possible.
