KTM is supposedly coming out with an 800 Adventure in 2018ish. Apparently the Duke 800 is first on the list, then the Adventure will follow soon afterward.

I don't care what anyone says, I fucking love my 1290SA. My buddy and I had a blast in the Adirondacks on the 4WD trails we found 2 weeks ago. The 1290 is just so confidence inspiring in pretty much anything, and then when you're done you get back on pavement and rip through corners, then back on the highways and eat up hundreds of miles on cruise like its nothing. The only thing that sucks is pushing it around offroad.

    ..and paying for it.

The KTM 800 rumor has been around for a long time. Even if they make it, no promises they'll bring it to this market. (Hello 1050 ADV.) Basically I think that machine isn't even worth talking about until it.. you know.. exists.

At this point I'm prepared to think they shouldn't bother making an 800. Just bring the already exists 1050 to the US and be done with it.

Every once and a while you hear rumor of them wrapping ADV-ish bits around the 390 thumper too.

Yessss... this confirms nearly all of my suspicions... ! AT FTW!

I think if I can wrap my head around parting with my ST2 and ZRX, the AT might be the replacement.

The 1050 is just a dumbed-down 1190 with cast wheels for the European beginner market. The 800 ADV (which has meantime been captured in spy photos) will be a smaller, substantially lighter, more offroad-oriented bike. Totally different focus. I'm really curious to see what they come up with. Who knows, when it's available I might even decide to trade in my AT for one.

I'd be surprised if it didn't show up here. The only reason they didn't bring over the 1050, from what I understand, is that it was developed specifically to comply with European graduated-licensing requirements. Since we don't have those here, it would be pointless to go through the trouble of importing it.

It's kind of a vlog, but they have access to all the new toys, and a film crew, and riding facilities, and it's a friend of mine. So watch it, foo!

It's a little silly to assume that someone is always going to simply ride either roads or single/two track exclusively in any given ride. I do have a lot of great offroad access being right next to Swanzey, but if I want to ride up to Pittsburg and ride the thousands of acres of trails they have, or ride out to the Adirondacks and ride the trails through the ADK Nat'l Park, I'm not taking a dirt bike with a plate on a 5 hour road ride just to get there.

Of course big heavy 500-600lb ADV bikes aren't going to handle a motorcross track, frankly that seems like a fact that doesn't need to be proven. The whole point of an ADV bike is that it's an amalgamation of several different classes of bikes that let you do a little bit of everything - touring, sport riding and moderate offroading. They're super versatile, but no, they'll never do any one thing fantastically (although I'd argue my 1290SA is a monster on the street), but that's the whole point.

Easy to spot the strom owner here.

I don't like it either. The new big orange bikes have similarly low slung pipes.
It's shitty design. It is, however, way easier on the eyes than the 690/701 pipes and the older husky te's. which are heinous.

Problem with side routing is your knee/shin is constantly making contact. I went through a lot of pants on the 690SMC

No doubt. The 690 exhaust is gross. It'd probably look better with pants stains all over it.
