yea i know that no its a buddy of mine its a 450 u know iv ridden Mopeds and 4 wheelers and such and everyone tells me that im not going to have any probs i just think its the Hand Clutch that is going to give me the probs u know unfortunetly my old man is to old to show me ( a couple of Heart attacks and Strokes ) so he cant teach me he is an Old School Harley Rider hates that im on a Honda but loves the fact that i wont wreck a HD as my first bike haha

"BETTER" people fall down too. If you're going to learn wearing a full face helmet, just stick with one.

you'll look like a clown in the shell helmet, stick with a hat that has a purpose and wear the full face. It doesn't matter how good of a rider you become, people still drive like jackasses. Don't skimp on the gloves, boots, or pants either. Get leather or a highly recommended textile, no mesh cheap shit. Then you'll fit right in.

Hey dude, welcome to the forum & welcome to the world of street riding.

You asked for tips and advice & that's good... but you'll only benefit from it if you actually listen to it.
Forgive me if I cover things you already know, but it seems as if you're starting pretty much from scratch... so here goes.

First thing's first... Don't be one of those newbies that comes here looking for us to rationalize or support the bad ideas that you've learned from other people who think they know what's best for new riders... cuz more often than not they're wrong... Forget EVERYTHING you THINK you know about riding and EVERYTHING you've learned from other people. You said your father rides & that's cool and I respect that... but cruisers are a whole different world compared to sportbikes... not only what/how they ride, but the culture that surrounds it as well.

If you want to learn how to ride on your own, that's fine... but the safest, wisest and most beneficial way for you to learn how to ride BY FAR is by taking the MSF course. It's a 2 day course that helps you build the foundation for the skills you need to learn in order to ride safely in the real world. The skills they taught me have saved my life on multiple occasions. That alone should be enough reason for you to consider taking it.

The course is designed for those with ZERO riding experience and many instructors (including some that are members here... and there are many) will probably tell you they prefer someone with little to no experience as there's less bad habits to correct.

If you choose to take it I suggest signing up for an early spring course as soon as you possibly can... they fill up QUICK.

Regarding the helmet thing... I know you live in NH and a 1/2 shell is better than what the law calls for... but you'd be a fool to wear anything less than a proper full face when you're out on the street. A full face helmet is the #1 protector of your LIFE in an accident and EVERYONE is at risk of having an accident no matter how experienced they may be. They're not called "accidents" because they happen on purpose, right?

Anyway... that's enough from me right now... pretty much any one of us here could go on for hours about riding & I'm certainly no exception, but i'm goin back to the Pats game for now

What Oreo said, dress for the crash and don't skimp on armor. Take it slow and ride the Kanc as much as you can, its good practice.

Slow and easy.
Might even want to pick up some winter-reading from Barnes & Nobles. Plenty of great books out there with riding tips ranging from beginner skills to racer.

Full face helmet, *real* gloves, jacket...etc.

Very experienced and helpful folks....may want to jot down some notes.
