Can-Am Spyder

Was looking at these at the dealership a few days ago. They look like they'd be pure fun, has anyone here tried one yet? Any thoughts or impressions on them? I wonder how they'd be as a winter "bike"..lol...you could run a big ol' snow tire on that rear wheel!

They're pure fun for the first 5 minutes. After that you become keenly familiar with the fact that the Spyder is nothing like a motorcycle. It's more like driving a small, underpowered, convertible.


If you're a avid snow mobile rider, you'll love it. Cause that's what it steers like. (except it's without the ability to slide the rear end... the non-defeatable traction control system makes very certain of that)

This past spring I took one for a 45 min. test ride. Let's say I've never had the urge to ride one again. Once a motorcycle rider always a motorcycle rider. Didn't care for how the crown of the road pulls you to either side on the road. I also can't justify spending that much money on something with that many "Safety" features. They end up driving the price up. Features such as ABS, Trac Control,Anti-roll,Speed Limiter, etc. For each his/her own. The Spyder is not for everyone.

Haven't ridden one, so I have no opinion. I'm thinking that if Can-Am{BRG} sticks with it, the snowmobile crowd will flock to them, once enough of them get out there and get noticed. It could be a huge market. Also, older folks will have more choices as far as trikes are concerned. My dad is 77, and still riding his 1800 Wing. He is curious because he knows his legs aren't what they used to be.

Hm. That's too bad. They look like they'd be fun to light up the rear wheel at every stop light.
I could see myself wanting a trike when I get old enough (getting close now). The only question is whether I'd like the extra wheel in the front, or back. The Ural 2-wd sidecar rig is interesting...
Of all the trikes offered, the Piagio MP3 is of the most interesting (leaning) design to me.

I didn't like the fact that when I went to stop for the first time, my instinct to grab the front brake lever left me pulling at nothing but air. I hear this is disconcerting for many regular motorcycle riders, not easy to get used to.

I was amazed at how many people I saw on Can-Am Spyders at Daytona Bike Week this year. Unbelievable. Not my cup of tea but if you are into cruising around with the old lady on the back, guess they are okay?

I've never been an avid snowmobiler, or for that matter ever thought much about three wheelers. The Spyder just looks like it would be a different kind of fun. In addition to, but not as a motorcycle replacement. I'll never give up my bikes!!!

the spider is gay...just diluting and dumbing down the skills it takes to ride around on a bike.

unless you are disabled and can't ride a normal bike...in that case rock on.

I rode one at Seacoast earlier this year! It was pretty cool. Weird...but cool!

So they look kind of cool because they're different, but you lose the best part about riding, the cornering. Unless you really like snowmobiling and have horrible balance or your crippled and can't operate a two-wheeled motorcycle, it's a pointless vehicle.

Get a trike kit for it. He won't want to give up the comforts of the Wing for a Spyder.

Only on the automatic. If you start with the manual, unbolt the wheel speed sensors at each wheel and ziptie them away from the spinning bits. Tada, no more ABS/TC, let'er rip!
