Android vs Apple and phone vs pad

here in the General Bike Related because it is

Don't know how many new bikes rely on Bluetooth apps as part of their bike's setup. My new Kymco AK 550 does

wanna set the time, you need to use the app, but there are also other features, Kymco gives you a free map of your country, your GPS data from you phone displayed on the bike's display, many other features

right now, without a device, I have to have dealer set the time with the "Noedoo" app one of the mechanics put on his phone.

my requirements are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi & GPS, either Android or Apple, with Google Play to download the app

I have no intensions of having a sim card and using as a phone, advantage to a smaller phone is that it might fit in my glove box where I have a usb power outlet, or I run a power outlet to my trunk, and have a larger tablet.

I should be able to get what I need for under $100

Don't you have an old phone in box somewhere? Just use that. Target sells cheap prepaid phones for like 50 bucks.

ya, I have an old Nextel, no, don't have anything Android or Apple, but, maybe run an Android emulator on my laptop, and add a usb gps dongle

do those cheap phones have bluetooth, wi-fi & gps ? tablets tell you what they have, phones not so much, is that cause they are assumed to have all 3?

Pretty sure I have some old android phones I can wipe and send you. I'll have to check the battery first to make sure it's worth your time and effort. If not, you can always pick up a phone from swappa.com for cheap and just use wifi. You can also do the same thing with an inexpensive android tablet.

I have a few old Android phones I can check to make sure they'll charge. I'll need a reminder though...

Re: Android vs Apple and phone vs pad

hard to find a phone small enough to fit in my glove box 5" screen size if there is no perimeter, most smaller phones are pre Android 4.4.4 or i0S9, finally found one that suits my needs, not the most modern, but I can toss it in my glove box, where I have a usb outlet to plug the charge cord

um, no reviews, just one 3 star rating with no comment. I will be happy if I can load Noodoe from Google Play, set up my scooter, and occasionally use the GPS, no intensions of using it for a phone or web browsing

I've got a Kyocera Duraforce Pro I'd be willing to sell for $40. Brand new battery, has Android 6.0, 5" screen, hell it even has wireless charging.

Check out the galaxy s4 or above. And don't be afraid if it's not supported that just means no updates. Size wise an s6 would be good, still back before phones got huge and obviously has Google play and bt.

came today, the whole phone is smaller than most batteries, other than fat fingering cause I don't have a capacitive stylus that works, I connected to wi-fi, downloaded and installed my Noodoe app, played with the gps a bit, seems to work, it pinpointed me perfectly. Tomorrow, I will mate it via bluetooth to my scooter, add a different clock display, and navigation. done for the most part, after that, the only thing the phone is for, is to input a destination

To use the GPS, I believe you still need a data connection. So it may not work while riding without having cell service, unless it possibly will load everything on WIFI before you leave.

gps works fine, initial satellite acquisition is slower (40 seconds vs 29 seconds)without towers. once it acquires satellites, it works like any other cell phone, map is loaded to my scooter
