I demo'd one of those at a Suzuki demo day. I wasn't able to keep up with the 'busa in front of me on the entrance ramp, but not long after we merged I slotted in behind him doing 80ish. Other people may retire to an electric golf cart, but I plan on tearing up the retirement home on one of those (if I make it to a retirement home).

ya, she just bought it 10 days ago, chinese, no brand name 49cc, top speed is just under 40, great for her 2½ mile (2 miles gravel) commute. she can get there just as quick as anything. She's thinking of longer trips, but would like to keep up with traffic once she gets off the gravel roads

    Re: Anne's new ride

Wifey is interested in one of those 49cc jobbers. We've had the discussion about the fact that I'll buy her something more practical if she'll take the MSF course, but I'm unreasonable.

If you're really looking to upgrade let me know. I might be interested in the gateway scooter .

my thinking is upgrade won't be till next spring, anything bigger than 49cc requires MC endorsement, Anne wants to get it via the MSF route first.

the cheapest chinese scooters run $499-$799 new at places like scooter depot, Anne bought hers barely used from someone that bought it but was afraid to ride

to tell you the truth, when Anne first hopped on it I was biting my finger nails, today I watched he take of with the kickstand down and as she went out of sight, I heard a loud scraping noise, I ran down the road, she wasn't there, asked her about it, she said "ya, second time I've taken off and forgot the kickstand" In just a few miles, she has gained quite a bit of confidence, but most of the miles have been less than perfect conditions, gravel road & rain.

yes, she has asked me about studding her tires this winter already, I know that studded scooter tires are available, not sure about the sizes though, or Aerostitch studs, I don't thing they make scooter knobies with deep enuf tread to drill like I did on the karoo t on my V-strom

    Re: Anne's new ride

I hear ya. Wifey has some friends who just got some of these non-license required jobs. Her lady friend has actually already crashed, but just had some minor scuffs.

These things do seem to be pretty forgiving.

I'm pretty sure wifey would get too cold before ever needing studded tires for me, which saves me something

Buy a used Zuma.....knock off's are hit or miss. And if you want her to be safe give it a 70cc head kit. Allows you to keep up with traffic a bit better and not getting passed as much.

    Re: Anne's new ride

My mom bought a Yamaha TMAX 500 several years ago. It's got more than enough power to cruise at interstate speeds, is comfortable for long rides and can even store a 12-pack under the seat. She got it brand new for around $8500. I don't believe they make them any longer, however.

As ridiculous as it sounds, my father actually took over riding that while my mom moved to a Bonneville. He absolutely loves the stupid thing.
