I don't see any org ever putting the Kawi i4 and the Prillia twin in the same class, it wouldn't be a fair fight unless you didn't allow people to uncork the Kawi with a reflash.

    Re: Aprilia RS457 twin sportbike?!

It's a price point A2 compliant motorcycle. I keep waiting for the sport bike equivalent of a KTM 350 EXC-F. These companies need to look at what KTM is doing. People are spending $12K on their 350 dual sport when the Honda CRF300L is only $6k? YET those KTM 350 and the 500cc sell out as fast as they make them. Why because they are weapons in their element not requiring much to race in a J-Day or enduro while being fully legal on the street.

Imagine a smaller CC sport bike with that kind of target. Low weight, great suspension, lower stressed motor that can easily be converted to the race tune (KTM 350SXF and 350EXC-F share same motor just in lower tune for street) This is what the old gray market 400's were back in the late 80' and into the 90's. They were full send 400's.

    2023 Kawasaki ZX4-RR weight - 414.5 lbs
    1990 Kawasaki ZXR400 weight - 351 lbs

(Grumpy old man response - Back in the day....)

Apples to apples, 415lbs wet for the 2023, 390lbs for the 1990... and that 1990 didn't have a catalytic or other emissions bits to lug around.

I took the left-hand passenger peg bracket off my 4RR so far...only another 60+ lbs to go.

You fast guys are all about the race class implications; to me this 457 just sounds like a rockin' good time. I do wish it were aimed more at the $10k price point than the $7k price point, but presumably the aftermarket will figure out a way to extract $3-6k from anyone who wants to win a race on one of these.

Nice to see manufactures building small cool sport bikes.
