Interesting articles on HD and Buell

This blogger has been putting up an interesting series of essays on why Harley-Davidson have basically doomed themselves by shutting down Buell. As usual, the most recent article is at the top, but it's worth reading the entire series in order (starting with "How Harley Blew It: 10 Critical Mistakes...").

Put together, they present a really interesting analysis of the motorcycle business and generational culture trends that affect it.

I can dig what they're throwing down.
Not brought up is the price point. Younger males tend to want to ride the bigger baddest bikes, and they simply cant afford a Harley.

Every time I read Wendy Moon's writing, my eyes glaze over. I really wish she was quicker to the point sometimes.

I disagree because there will always be an over abundance of tough guys. Especially here on the Norf Show. Hardly will always have the tough guy image and people will pay for it.

That is actually mentioned somewhere in one of the articles -- not just Harley but all of the higher-priced manufacturers.

Re: Interesting articles on HD and Buell

The price point is implied by the demographics she analyzes. The mid-life rider has more net income and that demo is HD's market. As it diminishes, HD's revenue pipeline will get smaller until genY ages into HD's bracket.

HD may not survive that long.
