One article explaining the history of the the term "horsepower" and what it actually means and the other article about the demise of Buell Motorcycles.
I highly recommend reading both articles if you are able to. The horsepower one is very informative.
The demise of Buell is another one that's more of an eye-opener as to what transpired up to the closing of Buell. As you know, I wish the best for Erik Buell and hope he gets a real shot at making an honest sport bike in his lifetime because I think we the consumer will benefit considerably.
I just put the mag down.. great timing.
Oh and good articles
The Barracuda 2....![]()
Should be an article on the New exhaust from 2 brothers racing for the Hawk too.

That article about the demise of Buell made me even more sad that they're gone. It sounds like Erik really wanted to put out some great products, and Harley just kept killing all of their innovative/creative ideas. After reading that article I loathe HD even more.
That about sums it up.
Another funny thing is that if you read the article carefully it pretty much goes on to say that H-D is going to continue making the same crap because nothing can be had from racing. Then again, that is somewhat true when you are hell-bent on using the same clunky engine config from 1903.
I find it rather unreal that H-D is going to stubbornly continue right down the same path of the AMF days. America needs a real sport bike and, at least for right now, we can thank Harley-Davidson for nixing that plan because they continually choose not to see other market segments.
Erik Buell has something and we can only hope that there's an investor or two that will be able to back him up.
HD has their Demographic... They do not want to cross the line to the hooligans. Big burly bearded men are where its at with them. I mean come on how many Honda, Suzuki or kawi tats do you see out there? Not many. And if you have one you are a toolbag and I do not want to know about it.
I saw this a couple of days ago and wanted to stay out of it.... Being a Buell owner and "enthusiast" I guess people think my view is jaded by brand loyalty. My bike will never be the fastest, or the best handling, and definitely isn't the prettiest bike in the world. However, I have great pride in the fact that some of our "elves" as we Buellers call them here in the states put my bike together. Harley tried to kill Erik's dream, but now looking at his 1190 race bike and what he has done with the 1125r's at his ErikBuellRacing shop lead me to believe that he is far from done. It only takes a quick glance at Buell enthusiast sites like Badweatherbikers and Buelletinboard, to name a couple, to realize that there is no shortage in people willing to keep Buell alive with the remaining bikes on the road. The barracuda 2 project was an evolution of the bike I ride, and safe to say if it ever comes to truition, I will be right in line to grab one up. I hope Erik keeps doing what he does best, overcoming the naysayers and critics and continues to build unique and exciting motorcycles.

Jen test rode the 1125CR at Infineon last year and came away really impressed. We'd both buy/ride one of those as our street whips anyday.

Wait!
In a way, did a13x just tell us he had Honda, Suzuki or Kawi tats?

What are some examples of HD killing off ideas and inovation?

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I am thinking of getting a sunshine or butterfly on my lower back, but now that you mention it, buell would fit there too. oooooh decisions decisions!
hope someone gives that dude and honest shot to make some american sportbike magic happen.

What about the VR-1000? What about the bikes made available to the public (that were sold before they were even built) for homologation rules? They certainly were trying (and failing) to build a superbike.
What HD honestly needs is more engineers than lawyers. That's their biggest problem. 1903 technology in 2010. Love it.
I was at the store earlier, if I had seen this before hand I'da grabbed a copy.
Barracuda looked to be one hell of a bike...
I test rode the 1125's a couple times and loved them - For what I paid for my 750 when I picked it up, If I had waited another year, I could have easily snatched up a new 1125 with just a bit more coin, and definately would have!
It's my belief Buell will be back in 2012 after his contract runs out with HD and he can start to produce his own shit again. I think the barracuda will become a real street bike and the 1125r will be back, and I doubt he'll have trouble finding any investors.
