The good thing, there are 2 air boxes, the stock R7 air box, and a YEC race air box.

Yes, I have the shower injectors, along with 2 types of air snorkels. The only thing missing, are the fuel lines that connect the throttle bodies, to the shower injectors. The connection for those lines, are built into the airbox.

In this picture, the shower injector assembly is setting on top of the throttle bodies.. it’s all one unit

That air box is really key to that bike then. More so than any other box I have seen. Good luck in the search.

Depends on size, materials etc.. There is an app now that will let you scan an object with your phone and send it to your PC. Then you can edit it with whatever CAD program you use and then send it to the slicer for printing.

Maybe this has been covered but I don't recall seeing it mentioned. How does one go about losing the stock air box to a motorcycle like this? It's not like the factory air box from this bike is common to some other bike that it would have been used on. Maybe replaced with the YEC version and factory one sold off to someone with a crashed R7 for repair purposes?

Do you not have either of the two options, factory or YEC?

    Purely curiosity.

It’s a long story. Short version, prior owner was having someone convert it to a race bike. The bike was apart, life happens, 5…10…15 years went by, moving, storage, etc. Parts were lost and I don’t have the OE airbox or a YEC airbox.
It’s both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Blessing is, if this were a complete bike with all parts, this thread wouldn’t exist and I wouldn’t be able to afford to buy the bike in the first place. The curse, it’s a bitch finding parts for and I’m inpatient.

In the end after sourcing / manufacturing the missing parts... will it still be less of an investment than a full bike?

Assuming what complete running clean R7’s have been selling for, yes. I’ll be less than half of what most recent sales are. There was an R7 that sold on Iconic motorbikes with no engine, for $16k, seeing that is what helped my decision to buy this bike. Even if I’m not successful in getting it running correctly, I feel I can still at least get my money back.

From your previous work shown here... I have no doubt you'll get it running correctly. And as close to factory correct as possible

Re: Bad decisions were made today..

I had some tinker time yesterday with the rainy day and spent a few hours working on the bike. Mounted a new rear hoop and put on a new chain. The bike had the 520 conversion new sprockets already, so I bought the 520 chain. Of course whoever installed the front sprocket, put it on backwards.

    Bad decisions were made today..-img_6666-jpg

I also figured I’d take the front end apart. First up was to test fit the front brake calipers from my Aprilia Tuono Factory, and try the Aprilia front fender. The front fender was a perfect pit and I’ll order an aftermarket carbon fiber front fender for an RSV4 factory to have until I find an original R7 front fender.

The Brembo Aprilia brake calipers do bolt to the Ohlins on the R7, but the spacing isn’t correct. I reached out to the company ( Lindman Engineering) that built the forks years ago, but they were of no help. Owner passed away in 2011, the current owner bought the business and wouldn’t comment on anything that happened prior to 2011. All I’m looking for is what fork bottoms are on these forks and how can I order the correct brake caliper for the forks.
I also found out there was an incorrect spacer in the front axle. I’m not to concerned about the spacer, I think it can easily be made, and the person I bought the bike from has a sick machine shop and already offered help with machine work if needed.

Check in with Tim at Superbike44, they're in Nashua. He's an Ohlins dealer (and K-Tech, Penske, Andreani) so he'll likely be able to help and provide any parts needed.

I’ve been going back and forth with Tim on a few things, he’s been very helpful and thank you for the tip.
I’ll be going up there in a few weeks to figure out/measure the correct spacing for the Axle.

I’ve learned that it’s common to use spacers for calipers, as the fork legs are likely set up for 310mm rotors, but with spacers, you could use 320mm or 330mm rotors. I need to buy the 100mm radial calipers first, then figure out the spacer and caliper bolt size. I’m thinking the Brembo calipers from a 2020+ Aprilia RS660. They are the same size as the Tuono 1100 calipers I test fit, except the finish is factory black.

Still no luck on the airbox, but I think the 2009-2014 R1 air box can be modified to work assuming it fits under the fuel tank. I’ve also read it doesn’t “need” the shower injectors to run, and all I’d need to do is run a return fuel line from the main fuel rail, back to the tank. It will be back to the restricted 106hp without the shower injectors though.

No pictures today, I’ve only been doing a few small things, replacing bolts and fasteners, new tires, and installing the original clutch and front brake master cylinder’s and levers.

Mark, I have a set of 100mm M4 Brembos I’d be happy to have go to such a project… they were earmarked for my Multistrada but I haven’t bothered getting around to it yet.

One part missing that I’m having issues finding, which I’m guessing is an Ohlins part? The piece I need, looks like the part in the picture, but the size specs are not what fits my bike. It’s basically a spacer sleeve that slides in the fork bottom, and the axle threads into it. I’m sure I can have it made, but I’m hoping for the easy route and being able to buy one. Has anyone seen something like this available to buy? For reference, the sleeve length is 44.86mm and the OD of the sleeve is 32mm
