So weird that someone would half-ass it together all wrong and give it a rattle can paint job. This was not a cheap motorcycle, new or used.

I'm thinking the same thing... spray painting parts and putting it together wrong just doesn't make sense to me. There has to be a story behind that part of this bike's history.. especially with the low miles

The previous owner rattle canned the swingarm on my zx9r, which is really weird because the frame is bright and the wheels are color matched.

But yeah, the zx wasnt $35k 20 yes ago

I’m almost certain the painted parts are from the original owner. Back in 1999-2000, blacked out parts was all the new rage. I had conversations with the original owner back in 2000 when I had my R7.
I don’t know what happened with the parts being installed wrong, if I had to guess based on a few things I’ve found with the bike, the bike was apart and in the process of being converted to a race bike, the needed to be moved/relocated for whatever reason, and someone just tossed parts on it quickly.

Yamaha has not produced any parts for this bike in 14 years, and the production numbers were so low to begin with. I feel motivated to get as many available parts as I can, and get as much of the bike put back together as possible. Doing so, will give me the most accurate parts list, and best chances to source them

I’m going to try the R1 hoses. Confirmed the tube and o-ring is the same size, it’ll come down to the depth it goes into the head. Unfortunately, they are unavailable new. Fortunately my nephew has a 2003 R1 engine sitting in his garage and I can take them off his engine to see if they will work.

I removed the race radiator this afternoon and test fit the original radiator to see what’s missing. Most all the hardware was in a zip lock bag, but still missing the correct mounting bolts. Placed a partzilla order today for a bunch of bolts and grommets.
I was able to admire some moto art with the radiator off.

Sweet. You’ll definitely need new o-ring if they fit. They turn into square rings over time from the heat.

Re: Bad decisions were made today..

My nephew dropped off the R1 hoses yesterday. I cleaned them up a bit and test fit them. The angles are wanky, but if I can cut them down some, re-flare the ends, I can make them work with rubber hoses and a hose T. It’s certainly not ideal, not something I’m proud of, but it’ll work until/if/when I can find the correct hose.
My only concern, if you look at the picture of the parts diagram, there’s a little vent hose on the R7 part, there is no vent hose on the R1 parts. Hose #1 is the part I’m trying to make.

I’d be open to having one custom made as well if there were a reputable shop around that could make one?

A friend of a friend of a friend is supposed to stop by on Sunday to take some dimensions for the coolant pipe and custom make it from stainless steel tubing. I installed the original radiator and made a template out of electric wire to show the guy where the pipe needs to be.

The more research I do, the more useful info I find. The airbox on the R7, is similar in mounting design as the 09-14 R1. Those style air boxes are all over ebay for around $50.00, I may pull the trigger on one just to see if it’ll work. I’m confident in time, I’ll find the correct air box, but I kinda want to hear it run now.

A lot of parts should be here between Monday and Wednesday of next week. Tail section, under tail, original ignition with a key, fuel cap with matching keys, original clutch and front brake master cylinder’s, new chain, zero gravity windscreen, and some fresh Michelin rubbers.

Also have an appointment at the DMV on Monday to get the plate.

Yes, it’s a dual injector Denso efi. The throttle bodies have a built in injector on each one, and the shower injectors on top.

Tail section showed up today… along with the extra set of cowlings and another fuel tank. I had to buy the whole set just to get the tail section. The only parts of the body I’m still missing are the front fender, and a seat.

I forgot how big and bubbly the late 90’s era bikes were. It’s starting to look like a complete bike.

    Thank you.

I’m waiting for the guy to come over and take some dimensions and confirm he can actually make it.
