    Do you balance trailer tires

I have my trailer that takes 205/70-15 tires on chrysler 5 bolt rims.

I blew a tire on the way to the track last race weekend and used my spare. All my tires are old and weather cracked so I decide to replace em.

I got 3 newish tires for $30 and had em mounted ($40), even got a free rim in the deal.

The guy that mounted them did not balance them. What I am wondering is should I get them balanced?

While they are off I am repacking my bearings tonight. Would any local stores have Bearing buddies?

Anything spinning at highway speeds should be balanced.

I'd get 'em balanced. You'll usually notice an unbalanced tire more on a single axle trailer or a trailer that's really light. It's a safe bet if you're running it up the highway

As far as bearing buddies, I would say Lucky's Trailers in Bethel, but you're not exactly close to them.

IIRC, unbalanced tires also put more wear on wheel bearings over time.

+1 if you were on a farm going 5mph I'd say don't worry, anything else, get them balanced.

I bought a bearing packer, I will be doing mine very soon. I don't need to be stuck anywhere at all. It would so, suck!
as long as i can save one trailer it will all be worthwhile

remember, June is "Trailer Maintenance Awarness Month" - no bearing left un-greased

i never have trailer tires balanced from 2k 12k trailers. i dont think iv'e ever seen a trailer rim with weights on it.

on another note i dont balance my bikes tires either and never had any vibrations or problems.

Re: Do you balance trailer tires

If it makes a differnce they are car tires on the trailer. Just a lil added insurance I suppose.

I cleaned and repacked the bearings and installed bearing buddies while I was at it. Should be good to go.

What do hope to accomplish with the bearing buddies? Don't make the mistake I did and think greasing the bearing buddies greases the bearings.

The bearing buddies do a nice job at keeping the outers greased...the inners, not so much.

Getting a seized bearing off beside the road sucks!

I have been towing 2500 to 7500 lbs for years and have never had a trailer tire balanced. I've never seen one either.

I am aware the outer will get more greas than the inner. I just figured the $25 was a good investement since my caps were all dented and one actually had a hole!
